About us

The Emanuel Jackson Senior Project, also known as the "EJS Project," is a 501(c)(3) grassroots organization founded in 2014 by Emanuel "Dupree" Jackson, Jr. Our goal is to make sure teens in our community of Delray Beach, FL, receive the support they need to succeed in school and in life. Our mission is to provide a safe space for teens throughout PBC while creating and empowering tomorrow’s leaders. Our teens and community deserve equity of opportunity, and thanks to the EJS Project's strong local relationships, we are able to promote change in individuals, organizations, and systems. EQUITY STATEMENT: The EJS Project acknowledges systemic disadvantages and the barriers it has created in our community. EJS is dedicated to teaching truth, challenging systems, and fighting for its youth’s access to opportunities. NEIGHBORHOOD: The SET, home of the EJS Project, is positioned between Swinton Avenue and Congress, Lake Ida Road, and Linton and is considered Delray Beach’s “vulnerable footprint” (Community Commons, 2017). Rather than low-income… minority…underserved…unsafe--the EJS Project focuses on community history, talent, pride, and collective interest and concern for one another. EJS also focuses on systemic racism that causes these conditions and allows them to flourish. PARTICIPANTS: EJS participants and their families reflect neighborhood data. Students are between the ages of 12 and 19, low-income, and primarily African American and Haitian. They reside in the Set (with a few students traveling from Boca or Boynton) and attend local middle and high schools. Our teens may be excelling in school or struggling academically/behaviorally. However, all display a desire to grow, to evolve as young change agents, and to be future leaders. Because of the grassroots nature of our organization, the program receives referrals through walk-ins, emails, social media messages, and phone calls from parents, teachers, students, and partner agencies.

Our summer programming for teens is a vital initiative to keep students engaged during the break and provide them with meaningful experiences that foster personal growth. 🌱 By offering structured activities and opportunities for skill development, we ensure that students remain active and focused throughout the summer. Our goal is to help each participant return to school as a better, more prepared student, ready to excel in the upcoming academic year. Our program "Each 1 Teach 1" helped accomplish this! Special thanks to the Pulte Family Charitable Foundation for sponsoring our tutoring program. Math Tutor Jarrid Frye, Believe to Achieve, ReableU's EmpowerU Mental Health group helped prepare our students for the school year.

Lenard Hart, now a Senior at Atlantic Community High School, reflects on opportunities unique to the EJS Project. Programs like the Young Legislators Program and Purpose Pays internships allow students a sneak peek at real-world operations, allowing them to feel confident and prepared come graduation. "At EJS, I get to meet new people which I can call family now. I take advice from people that we meet at EJS, I take that advice to grow and learn." The EJS Project is so grateful for the community we have built together and is honored to be a part of our students' families. -- Want to help us support students like Lenard through our programming? Sponsoring, attending, or donating to our Benefit Gala is the #1 way to support our work right now. Last Monday, the EJS family came together for an unforgettable celebration of not one, but TWO incredible milestones: our TENTH anniversary and the grand opening of our brand-new home! 🎉 We are beyond grateful for the amazing turnout for this event. Our supporters, stakeholders, students, and families are the heartbeat of EJS, and it’s because of YOU that we continue to be the safe, empowering space we’ve always envisioned. A special thank you to the Boca Chamber for hosting and helping to spread the word about this special day! Here’s to many more years of growth, impact, and community.
