EJUSA's mission is to transform the justice system by promoting responses to violence that break cycles of trauma.
About us
Equal Justice USA (EJUSA) is a national organization working to transform the justice system to one that heals and restores lives. We imagine a justice system that is the solution instead of the problem, and we believe that we won’t get there solely by dismantling the parts of our justice system that are broken. We must also strengthen and scale the elements that work and build the system we want in its place: one that prevents violence, heals trauma, helps people harmed by crime to rebuild their lives, creates genuine accountability instead of mass incarceration, and treats everyone fairly and equitably in the process. Our work includes ending the death penalty, strengthening programs that help crime survivors address trauma and rebuild their lives, and promoting trauma-informed responses to violence that can save lives and help heal communities. We partner with state and local organizations to provide grassroots leaders with the training, leadership development, and support they need to win campaigns and have lasting impact. Today, on International Pronouns Day, we acknowledge the historical role of the criminal legal system in criminalizing queer identities. Misgendering and discrimination continue to harm trans and non-binary people every day. It's essential that we advocate for a justice system that respects and affirms the humanity of all people. Together, we can create a society that values equity and justice for everyone.

What a phenomenal week! We're so happy to welcome four new communities and organizations as partners and allies to build community safety. Stay tuned because we'll be telling stories about this transformational work in the coming months. Great work, RJ Team!
A couple of weeks ago, in my hometown of Minneapolis, MN, our Restorative Justice Team at Equal Justice USA had the incredible honor of spending a week with our four new Restorative Justice Diversion site partners. We spent the week building relationships, introducing and experiencing the incredible power of restorative justice 💫 . We are so elated to launch our inaugural RJD Roots Cohort, working to develop restorative justice diversion programs with leaders from community based organizations and system partners in: 🌱 Jackson County, MS 🌱 Richmond, VA 🌱 Pulaski County, AR & 🌱 Oakland County, MI ...and to continue expanding the movement for restorative justice as a pathway to meaningful accountability and healing across the country! #restorativejustice #youthjustice #diversion #cohortlearning #transformation

#NationalComingOutDay reminds us of the courage it takes to live openly in a system that has criminalized queer identities. The criminal legal system has harmed countless LGBTQ+ individuals. We need a system that protects and affirms everyone's right to be their true selves.
