    🇨🇦 Report from Our #Vancouver Office 🍁 Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming our CEO, Maxime Guilbot, to the Vancouver office before his next stop in New York 🗽. His visit gave us the perfect opportunity to reconnect, collaborate on exciting projects, and engage in meaningful client conversations. Of course, we also enjoyed some quality team bonding over lunch 🍽️, strengthening the spirit that drives us forward. The day ended on a high note at BDO Canada’s much-anticipated annual event, leading up to their renowned VC Pitch Day. The evening brought together visionary entrepreneurs, each pitching their ideas to a panel of venture capitalists with hopes of launching their next big venture 🚀. We were thrilled to share this inspiring evening with colleagues and new connections at the stunning Glowbal Restaurant 🥂, surrounded by innovative ideas and great conversations.     You may have seen the buzz around OpenAI's launch of O1, also known as Strawberry or Q*, and watched demos showcasing its impressive capabilities. How it's different from the GPT models we've been interacting with so far? This release represents a significant shift. We're no longer just interacting with a "next word prediction model"; we're engaging with a reasoning system. With traditional GPT models accessed via the ChatGPT interface, the interaction is straightforward. The model takes your input, predicts the next word, appends it, and continues this process iteratively until it reaches a "STOP" token indicating the end of the response. Aside from a moderation layer and some controls to prevent misuse, the exchange is direct and immediate. The result is akin to a "first thought" response—a quick answer without much deliberation, generated in less than a second. Once the words are predicted, the model's job is done. O1 changes the game. OpenAI has added a reasoning layer that decomposes the problem, plans the steps, verifies the answers, explores alternative solutions, and self-critiques the results. The model remains active for a longer period—perhaps 10 seconds or more, "thinking" about your problem. Instead of a quick first thought, you receive a considered answer, one that has been thoughtfully processed, much like how a human would approach a complex question. While step-by-step reasoning and self-critique aren't entirely new concepts—they've been used in coding agents and specialized applications where problems are broken down and LLMs are called upon at each step—OpenAI has integrated this into a general-purpose system, making it accessible to everyone.
