A tapestry of deep purples and fiery reds stretches across the horizon, casting a serene glow over the newly energized 500/34.5 kV Harquahala Sun Project. The project tied in over 500 MW of BESS and PV generation. This was a full-scale engineering, procurement, and construction project, with EPC Services Company leading the substation, 500 kV yard transmission build, and electrical testing. The substation consisted of three 500/34 kV transformers, six capacitor banks, four 500 kV breakers, and over twenty 34 kV breakers. The 500 kV transmission line was over 5 miles in length and tied into the APS Delaney Substation. Electrical Consultants, Inc. provided design expertise for the substation and transmission line design. Other teams involved in the project's success were the civil, environmental/permitting, studies, relay settings, and SCADA teams. 📸 Photo courtesy of: Jared Lowe, Field Construction Manager III
