Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day that marks a pivotal moment in American history. On June 19, 1865, over 250,000 enslaved people in Texas were finally freed, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. https://lnkd.in/g5zjCUNd As we move towards the end of May - Mental Health Awareness Month - it's crucial to highlight some eye-opening statistics, provided by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, underscoring the importance of mental health care: 🔹 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year. 🔹 In 2021, only 47.2% of U.S. adults with mental illness received treatment. 🔹 1 in 20 U.S. adults experience serious mental illness each year. 🔹 In 2021, only 65.4% of U.S. adults with serious mental illness received treatment. 🔹 1 in 6 U.S. youth have a mental health condition, but only half receive treatment. 🔹 50% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14, and 75% by age 24. Today and everyday moving forward, let's make a conscious effort to become more aware of others, especially in the workplace. Here are some ways to be more mindful of mental health: -Observe Behavioral Changes: Notice if a colleague seems unusually withdrawn, agitated, or overwhelmed. -Encourage Open Dialogue: Foster an environment where discussing mental health is normalized and supported. Simple check-ins can go a long way. -Offer Support: Let your colleagues know that you are available to listen without judgment. Sometimes, just knowing someone cares can make a difference. -Educate Yourself: Learn about common mental health issues and their signs. And beyond the workplace, let’s become more self-aware and observant to those around us: -Family and Friends: Pay attention to changes in mood, behavior, or routines. Offer a listening ear and encourage seeking professional help if needed. -Self-Awareness: Reflect on your own mental health and recognize when you need support. It's okay to ask for help. -Community Support: Engage in community activities that promote mental health awareness and support services. Let's break the stigma, start conversations, and support one another.
