Every part of our organisation plays an important role in managing resources efficiently and responsibly. Our site in Palmital, Brazil, has achieved significant results through a reverse logistics project and recently received a sustainability award from Schutz Vasitex, our partner expert in industrial packaging reuse. Since 2020, we’ve been recalling and reconditioning our Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs), preventing the need for 248 tonnes of steel and 94.4 tonnes of plastic that would have otherwise been necessary to manufacture new IBCs. This represents 590 tonnes less carbon emissions, the equivalent of taking about 166 cars* off the road for a whole year. As we celebrate the achievement of our Palmital site, we keep our focus on the future and our goal of becoming Net Zero by 2050. To make this possible, we are committed to working ever more collaboratively with our suppliers and customers to maximise the use of renewable energy and lower the pollution from our operations and products. At Elementis, we are committed to tackling climate change by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and developing high performance additives that deliver positive, sustainable outcomes for the environment and for society. This commitment is central to strengthening our business while staying true to our purpose: Unique chemistry, sustainable solutions. We contribute to the sustainability of our customers by offering additives that can lower processing energy requirements, reduce pollution and decrease transportation emissions. In our own operations, we have reduced our greenhouse gas emissions by 60% since 2019, a result of actions taken to increase energy efficiency and purchase clean electricity. In 2023, renewable and low-carbon electricity made up 77% of our total purchased energy. A few months ago, the UK’s Financial Times, in collaboration with Statista, recognised Elementis as one of the 600 European Union Climate Leaders. This acknowledgment underscores our commitment to reducing emissions, in line with the Science-Based Targets Initiative. Every part of our organisation plays an important role in our progress, and we are proud of what we’ve achieved so far. However, this is just the beginning.
