✨ Elevate is thrilled to celebrate 2018-2019 Tutor Fellow Alum Sabrina Kwong as she takes on an exciting new role as Executive Director of Chinese Performing Arts of America!✨ Enjoy these thoughtful words from Sabrina about how her time at Elevate has helped shape her journey as an activist and community leader. "My time at Elevate helped me further my passion for and understanding of non-profit missions to serve and pay it forward by providing me the opportunity to go into the community, get out of my comfort zone, and be the change I want to see. With their professional workshops for mentors and supportive staff, I felt supported in achieving my goals. Group training sessions were one of my favorite parts of the program as they served a community of other fellow first-generation university students like me who inspired me to keep building hard and soft skills. This transformative experience inspired me to continue working for organizations that provide needed services that help promote our social fabric, whether related to education in STEM and beyond or the arts. It shows that we all can commit to a bigger goal for our communities. Being part of Elevate reminded me of my search for meaning and the humility and courage needed to open the right doors. Upon graduation, I decided to continue working for non-profits as an act of continued social justice from SJSU in the Bay Area related to arts and culture, providing digital media and works of service. Now, as the new Executive Director of CPAA (Chinese Performing Arts of America), where I have been involved for more than 3 years, I've reached a milestone in continuing to support and lead the arts and culture of a community around West San Jose. I have taken a few of the skills in management and workshopping into my meetings and continue to write grants and lead with my best efforts for our mission to 'promote the arts and culture of Chinese and other communities of color through performing arts presentations, arts learning, and community-building services at our CPAA Arts Center and various venues throughout the Bay Area.' As I lead CPAA forward, my vision is to harness the rich tapestry of artistic and cultural expressions that our diverse region offers. By showcasing and celebrating this vibrant cultural landscape, we aim to empower marginalized communities, giving them a platform to amplify their voices, assert their identities, and become catalysts for positive change in our society. To learn more about our non-profit organization or visit CPAA Arts Center located at 6148 Bollinger Road in San Jose, check out our website and social media pages! cpaasv.org @chineseperformingartsofamerica Out Youtube is @cpaaartcenter"

At Elevate Tutoring, we are committed to changing the narrative for first-generation college students. The statistics are clear: only 59% of low-income, first-generation students enroll in college after high school, compared to 78% of their more affluent peers. Additionally, six years after starting college, only 44% of these students have earned a degree. We provide the mentorship, resources, and support that first-generation students need to successfully make it to-and-through college, and beyond. By helping students navigate their college journey and launch their careers, we aim to disrupt the cycle and ensure they have every opportunity to achieve their goals. Join us in our mission to close the achievement gap and empower future leaders!  #FirstGenProud #ElevateTutoring #MentorshipMatters #EducationForAll #ClosingTheGap

At Elevate Tutoring, we’re committed to leveling the playing field in education. The achievement gap between students of different socioeconomic backgrounds is one of the most pressing issues in education today. We know that this gap isn’t a reflection of the students' abilities, but rather a consequence of systemic underinvestment. That’s why we provide holistic support to our Tutor Fellows, training them not just in academic subjects, but also in culturally competent teaching strategies that empower the K-12 students they work with to succeed. Let’s work together to ensure every student has the opportunity to demonstrate their brilliance and reach their full potential. Reach out to info@elevatetutoring.org to learn how we can collaborate with you, your company, or your community! #PartnerWithPurpose #EducationalEquity #ClosingTheGap #STEMEducation #NonprofitPartnership

Last month, I had the pleasure of celebrating something I'm extremely proud of: the completion of my roughly two-year fellowship with Elevate Tutoring. During the fellowship, I tutored a range of students from middle to high school, primarily in math, while pursuing my bachelor’s degree. It was incredible to work with these students and teachers in my community of San Jose, CA. I am especially grateful to program staff Bob Schaffer and Mariah Plaza for giving me the opportunity to share both my technical and personal knowledge with these students. It is an experience I will always cherish. Thank you!
