On Saturday, our #ElkusManfrediPeople spent a steamy summer afternoon at The Greater Boston Food Bank. Alongside 10 other volunteers, they packed 288 boxes with 9,216 pounds of groceries, including cereal, milk, juice, grains, and various canned goods, providing 7,680 meals (enough to feed a family of 4 for 1 year). The University of Southern Maine McGoldrick Center for Career & Student Success and Portland Commons Residence Hall has won an AIA Maine Design Award of Merit in the Institutional/Commercial category and a Design Award of Merit from SARA NY! These two new linked buildings transformed the University of Southern Maine’s Portland commuter campus into a welcoming residential community. The new buildings and landscape enhance social equity, drive economic prosperity, and promote environmental stewardship through The Passive House Network design. Together, they include 580 new beds, a new green quad, a dining common, career services and student affairs offices, meeting rooms, lounges and a new university store.
