This past Friday, the team at Elmet celebrated the retirement of one of our longest tenured and most accomplished employees – a cornerstone of our team here in Lewiston – none other than the one and only, Vinay Desai. Vinay started with Elmet in 1988, back when the company was known as Philips Elmet. He had also worked within the Philips family of companies in years prior, for the Philips Wire & Coils Factory in Turnhout, Belgium. His legacy with Elmet Technologies and Philips dates back over 40 years. Over the years, Vinay held positions of progressively increasing process engineering and product development responsibilities, working cross-functionally across several departments – supporting senior management, the engineering teams, sales and marketing, the analytical lab, production teams, and so many more. Vinay’s work and career truly had an impact on every corner of the business. His technical mentorship of young engineers, verbal communication skills for non-technical employees, and his strong business sense made Vinay the ultimate team player and all-around leader at Elmet. Most recently, Vinay held the position of Chief Metallurgist and R&D/Engineering Manager. Beyond his work – Vinay had a personality that will be greatly missed by all at Elmet – his “can-do” attitude, lively spirit, strong ambition, quick wit, and sense of humor – to name a few. While we will all greatly miss seeing Vinay at work and around the facility each day, we know his retirement is well earned. Here’s to celebrating Vinay’s storied career, his legacy, his work, and his personality. And from all of us here at Elmet – a big round of applause and congratulations to you, Vinay.
