Expanding the reach of express logistics via air cargo - safely, efficiently and autonomously.
About us
At Elroy Air our mission is to improve quality of life around the planet by expanding the reach of expedited logistics via air cargo - safely, efficiently and autonomously. Our air cargo system features rotor-based vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) and transitions to wing-based cruise flight for long range. We have designed a holistic logistics system with integrated flight and ground operations that make our vehicles a safe, efficient way to transport cargo by air.

Congressman Mark DeSaulnier visited our flight test facility at Byron Airport recently to see the Chaparral aircraft and learn about our latest work to develop an aerial cargo system to safely and efficiently resupply troops in the field and revolutionize cargo logistics in the commercial market. We had a great discussion about the future! #eVTOL #Chaparral #cargodrone

Last month, our team had the opportunity to fly the Chaparral at the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Grounds. In 100 degree temperatures, our team flew the Chaparral and demonstrated its cargo handling capabilities as a system that could autonomously resupply forward-deployed ground forces for the U.S. Marine Corps. #cargodrones #hVTOL #logistics

Our co-founder and CEO David Merrill shares the incredible journey of designing Elroy Air’s Chaparral. From early discussions at the Pentagon to collaborations with the United States Marine Corps, FedEx, and humanitarian partners, Dave highlights the unique challenges and opportunities in meeting the needs of the armed forces and the logistics industry. Every detail of the Chaparral system, from the hybrid-electric powertrain to its automated cargo handling, was crafted to address real-world demands. Elroy Air is excited to announce our collaboration with the US Army through the xTech SBIR Autonomy program. We are working closely with the U.S. Army DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory, the U.S. Army DEVCOM Aviation & Missile Center, and others to explore landing gear configurations, as well as other enabling technologies, that offer added flexibility in austere operating areas while still enabling low touch ground operations and cargo handling. This contract adds to ongoing work with the United States Air Force and United States Marine Corps to develop an autonomous, multi-mission aerial logistics capability for contested logistics environments. #hVTOL #Chaparral #logistics #Army #USMC #USAF

Why is the Chaparral a hybrid electric aircraft? Chaparral was built to power long-range flights, especially for logistics and troop resupply. Elroy Air Founder & CEO David Merrill talks about the design choices we’ve made for the Chaparral. By combining distributed electric propulsion and a hybrid electric powerplant for long range, we’re able to meet the unique needs required for resupply, emergency response, moving critical goods, and supporting our troops. #Chaparral #hVTOL #cargodrone

The Elroy Air team is packed up and on the road to Yuma! We recently announced that together with Leidos we are demonstrating Chaparral as an autonomous Medium Aerial Resupply Vehicle – Expeditionary Logistics (MARV-EL) prototype for the Navy and Marine Small Tactical Unmanned Aircraft Systems program office (PMA-263). The flight test activities are scheduled for mid-July at the US Army Yuma Proving Grounds (YPG), Yuma, Arizona. The development and testing are part of a contract awarded last year to develop and demonstrate an uncrewed aircraft system (UAS) that can autonomously resupply forward-deployed ground forces for the United States Marine Corps. We’re excited to demonstrate the capabilities of the Chaparral system for PMA-263 over the coming weeks! #MARV_EL #Marines #Chaparral
