It’s awesome to hear how our focus on making every role meaningful impacted you! Creating a culture where everyone feels valued is exactly what we aim for, and it’s great to see you bringing that same energy to your communities. Your perseverance and adaptability are inspiring—keep building that "glass half-full" mindset! 🎞 🎇
As I settle into my sophomore year at Ross, I’ve been reflecting on my summer experiences for insights to help guide my business journey. To keep myself accountable, I wanted to share a few key takeaways that I hope provide some value to others: 1. People-Powered I had the privilege of visiting Album VC in Lehi, Utah, where I learned about the venture capital business model and shadowed company pitches. Still, my lasting takeaway was understanding the co-founders' perspectives. Sid K. believed in people and creating strong relationships between partners and founders, an approach at the core of every company he invested in. In the days I spent around the firm, I truly saw the value of relationships as a motivator and foundation for success, both in business and in life. As I begin to look towards the start of my career, I hope to find spaces that value strong relationships, and also not lose sight of the people outside of my business journey who help make me the best version of myself. 2. Make it Meaningful At my local Emagine Entertainment movie theater, I came to understand a powerful asset that made my managers exemplary–they made it meaningful. Although my roles were as simple as serving popcorn and cleaning theaters, my work did not feel trivial, since my managers made an intentional effort to instill a culture of purpose and value. For example, they bought us free meals during busy weekends and gamified sales, driving us to hit targets for service in exchange for real rewards. In other instances, upper management, including C-suite executives, would visit our theater to personally acknowledge our hard work. These little things made a huge difference for me. In my groups and communities at Ross, I want to take the time to “make it meaningful” for my teammates by creating environments where everyone feels valued, because that’s the kind of space I would want to be in. 3. If At First You Don’t Succeed… Emagine was not my first choice for employment. Nor was it my second. In fact, it was the seventeenth position I applied to, according to my Excel spreadsheet. This summer taught me that perseverance is an asset I must continually develop to be successful. When shifts were limited during slow weeks, I Doordashed to earn extra money. Handling rejection and unfortunate circumstances is not ideal, but inevitable. My adaptability this summer provided me with a rewarding set of experiences and reminded me how essential the skill will be for my success in the coming years. I now feel motivated to build a glass half-full mindset, seeing unfavorable situations not as setbacks, but as alternative opportunities. I’m grateful for my summer experiences and those who made them possible, and I’m looking forward to applying these lessons as I continue my personal and professional development at Ross! #Growth #Reflection #ProfessionalJourney #RossSchoolofBusiness
