I’m honored to have photographed the opening of “The Thread” exhibit at Vernon Park in Germantown. This powerful installation creates a space for reflection and connection, allowing visitors to use a disconnected rotary phone to speak to those they miss and remember. It also features a community mosaic, symbolizing our shared experiences and collective grief. Having spent many of my formative years in Germantown, this project holds a special place in my heart. It’s always a beautiful thing to see how art can bring us together and help people heal. Thank you to everyone who made this event possible.

For #GriefAwarenessDay, Pryce Jamison and I got to speak with Germantown neighbor, Janice R. Jenkins Tosto, who hosts Grief Journeys on G-Town Radio. 📻 With this platform for the past couple of years, she’s tapped into society’s hidden collective grief. Last year, Janice attended an installation unveiling for The Thread at the Rail Park in Callowhill. The Thread is a traveling installation that sets up a booth with a disconnected rotary phone, where you’re encouraged to speak to a loved one, share memories, and find solace. 📞 After witnessing this unique form of narrative therapy, she knew it needed to come to Germantown, prompting her to speak with the organizers. The Thread will be at Vernon Park, next to the Black Writers Museum, for the next few months and is open and available to everyone. Like Janice, we hope that all folks will channel their grief in the healthiest ways, especially in a rapidly changing neighborhood. ❤️ Read more about The Thread installation here: https://lnkd.in/e_BYAXK9
