  • Amazon is rolling out a new TV competition where entrepreneurs pitch their products for a chance to be featured on Amazon’s “Buy It Now” store. Think “Shark Tank” combined with Home Shopping Network. The show, starting October 30, will be hosted by comedian J.B. Smoove. Each episode’s winner will walk away with $20,000 and will receive valuable exposure on Amazon, potentially reaching millions of customers. Winners will also receive expert guidance on optimizing their product listings, ensuring they attract attention on Amazon's marketplace. The goal of the show is to help small businesses get the spotlight and make it easier for people to discover their products. Contestants will have 90 seconds to wow a live studio audience and a panel of judges. The “Buy It Now” panel of rotating judges includes Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow, fashion designer Christian Siriano, Ring creator Jamie Siminoff, and four other Amazon executives, including Tanner Elton, vice president for U.S. ad sales. This setup helps give viewers an inside look at how Amazon works with smaller businesses. This move is part of Amazon’s strategy to blend content and commerce, encouraging viewers to shop directly from their TV screens. By integrating entertainment and shopping, Amazon hopes to attract younger audiences who are already engaging in similar experiences on platforms like TikTok. This new Amazon show could be a game-changer for small businesses looking for major exposure. More details here: https://bit.ly/3Y1Dnj1

  • TikTok is no longer just a platform for viral trends and entertainment. On September 24, it officially entered the paid search market in the U.S. with the launch of TikTok Search Ads, just in time for the holiday season. TikTok has become a go-to place for discovery, with millions of users searching for product reviews, tutorials, and recommendations every day. In fact, 57% of TikTok users use the app’s search function, with nearly a quarter searching for something within 30 seconds of opening the app. This creates a golden opportunity for you to reach engaged shoppers when they’re actively looking for something. TikTok users perform over 3 billion searches a year, giving you direct access to a massive audience. While TikTok has featured ads in its search results before, this new feature gives you more control over where your ads appear. TikTok’s smart algorithm helps make these ads even more relevant by targeting users based on demographics, behaviors, and interests. In early tests, brands using both Search Ads and TikTok’s usual In-Feed Ads saw a 20% increase in conversions. Even better, users who didn’t click on an ad while scrolling were more likely to engage later after seeing a matching Search Ad. As the holidays approach, TikTok Search Ads could be a game changer for those looking to capture the attention of shoppers searching for gifts or deals. By combining discovery and intent, this new feature gives you a powerful way to stand out when it matters most. Read on: https://bit.ly/3N41NC6

  • Amazon has introduced a new AI tool, Project Amelia, to help sellers manage and grow their businesses. Currently available in beta for select U.S. sellers, Project Amelia is designed to answer common business questions and provide important data like sales figures and customer traffic. By simply asking Amelia a question like, “How is my business doing?” you will receive a quick summary of sales, traffic, and performance compared to previous periods. For more detailed insights, you can ask about specific products and get a breakdown of sales and customer data. Powered by Amazon’s AWS Bedrock technology, the assistant goes beyond simple data retrieval. You can ask follow-up questions for deeper insights, such as how a specific product is performing in terms of sales and customer engagement. In the future, Amelia will be able to handle more complex tasks, such as resolving issues like inventory discrepancies. For instance, you might ask, “Why aren’t my 300 incoming units showing in the report?” The AI can offer personalized support, or escalate the issue to Amazon’s seller support team if needed. Over time, Amelia will become even more advanced, anticipating your needs and even taking action on your behalf. This means that you can spend less time managing operations and more time focusing on growing your business. Project Amelia is currently only available to select U.S. sellers, followed by a broader rollout across the U.S. Later this year, the feature will launch in more countries and in other languages besides English. • WordPress has blocked WP Engine, a popular hosting provider, preventing thousands of websites from updating or installing plugins and themes. The conflict emerged at the recent WordCamp conference, where WordPress co-founder Matt Mullenweg accused WP Engine of violating WordPress trademarks and demanded tens of millions in compensation. When WP Engine didn’t comply, he publicly announced the ban, claiming WP Engine was profiting from a “bastardized” version of WordPress. In retaliation, WP Engine sent a cease-and-desist letter, accusing Mullenweg of disrupting the wider WordPress community and infringing on its operations. WP Engine reassured its users that although they can't currently update plugins or themes, site performance and security aren’t affected. They also provided manual workarounds and promised to resolve the issue soon. Compounding the dispute, the WordPress Foundation has accused WP Engine of breaking trademark rules by using WordPress branding without permission. Mullenweg revealed that Automattic, the company behind https://bit.ly/4enBXoN, had been trying to strike a licensing deal with WP Engine for some time, offering options for either a licensing fee or in-kind contributions to the WordPress project. Many WordPress developers are unhappy with how this situation has been handled. One anonymous contributor posted on Reddit that the developer community wasn’t informed of the decision in advance, and many disagree with how it's been carried out. On social media, the majority of users have expressed disappointment with Mullenweg’s actions. Technology writer Robert Scoble tweeted that he’s never seen a decision so widely criticized in the tech world. Others are concerned this sets a dangerous precedent, with fears that more businesses could be impacted in the future. As the conflict continues, users are left wondering about the future of WordPress and its community. More details: https://tcrn.ch/3zvI2QW
