Since EMPLOYERS has been coming to the aid of workers and businesses facing adversity for more than 100 years, it made sense for us to take action. We’ve teamed up with our restaurant association partners across the country to help workers stay on their feet, creating restaurant relief funds that provide grants directly to hardworking restaurant employees during this uniquely challenging time. With the change of seasons comes wacky weather and more time indoors—both of which can cause an increase in worker slips and falls. Keep your team on their feet with these safety reminders: 🚧 Make sure your work area is well lit, indoors or out 🚧 Wear appropriate, well-fitting footwear 🚧 Clean up liquid spills immediately 🚧 Keep walkways and hallways clear of debris, clutter, or obstacles 🚧 Close cabinets, drawers, and doors 🚧 Don’t leave cables and cords on the ground 🚧 Use some form of fall protection when working 6 feet above ground level or higher Step safely into the season and if you need any adjustments to your workers’ compensation policy, reach out to your EMPLOYERS agent. #safetytips #SafetyFirst

The weather can change quickly this time of year, sometimes catching outdoor workers off guard and posing a serious threat to their safety. Be sure your workers know what to do (and not do) when stormy weather strikes: 🌩️ Avoid electrical appliances, and only use phones and computers in an emergency. 🌩️ Remember lightning can travel 5-10 miles away from a thunderstorm, so don’t wait until the storm is directly overhead to seek shelter. 🌩️ Stay away from tall objects like trees and utility poles. 🌩️ Follow the 30/30 rule: Seek shelter if thunder follows lightning within 30 seconds and stay sheltered for 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder. Sunglasses aren’t just a fashion statement—for workers, they’re a critical piece of PPE. ⚠️ When shopping for a pair of safety sunglasses, look for the following: - The glasses should contain 99 to 100 percent protection from UVA and UVB rays (check their label for details). - Make sure the lenses cover your entire eye area, including your eyelids and the sides of your eyes. - Choose glasses that have shields on the top and sides to reduce the risk of getting foreign objects in your eyes from any direction. - Look for the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) logo and the Z87.1 code. This designates the glasses as approved safety eyewear. - Select close-fitting frames with larger lenses or wraparounds to prevent rays from entering on the sides. - Don’t let price fool you; just because the price is higher doesn’t necessarily mean the protection is better!
