We'd like to extend a huge thank you to the Texas Veterans Commission for honoring our organization with two grants totaling $1,000,000! 🎉 These funds will go directly to providing behavioral health services to both pre- and post-9/11 veterans, as well as veteran households facing housing instability with case management and financial assistance for rent, mortgages, utilities, groceries, and transportation. TVC Chairwoman Laura Koerner presented $7.5 million in grants to 22 Hill Country organizations that serve Texas veterans through financial assistance, home modifications, veteran mental health programs, and these funds are estimated to serve 7,290 local veterans and their families here in Texas! 👏 Funding like this is what helps us make a real difference in the lives of our veterans here in Texas and we were so honored to have hosted this event in our Wellness Center right here in San Antonio. This #InternationalDayOfSignLanguage, we want to show off our Endeavors Unlimited team out in Houston and how they utilize American Sign Language (ASL) as their primary means of communication in their workplace! With a team made up of many deaf employees, EU's innovative leaders have integrated a multitude of different accommodations and communication strategies into their team’s standard operating procedures like interpreter services and closed captioning for virtual meetings, visual cues, checklists, and assigned single points of contact for clients to streamlined communication. We recently had the privilege of hosting an event for our Transition Support Program in partnership with Onward Ops and Face The Fight, where we brought together a multitude of local organizations who are looking to better support our veterans. The Transition Support Program is designed to reduce suicide risk during what's known as "the deadly gap" -- the 12-month period after military service where veterans are most at risk for suicide. The Transition Support Program connects new veterans with a certified sponsor in their new community. Sponsors help provide support for veterans as they settle into civilian life and help them overcome obstacles and find valuable resources that fit their unique needs. It was a day dedicated to discussions of suicide prevention and important conversations surrounding mental health and our community's joint veteran support efforts. We were honored to have speakers like Chip Fulghum, Mike Eastman, Joe Geraci, PhD, Psychologist, Lloyd Kuykendoll, MA, and Gilbert Lauriano to attest to the need of programs like this and speaking on how we can all better support our veterans! We also had the opportunity to conclude the day with an educational and insightful "Talk Saves Lives" suicide prevention training from American Foundation for Suicide Prevention - South Texas Chapter. Thanks again to our amazing team members Sierra Hunter, MPH and Karah Smith for putting on this outstanding event for our community and your efforts to raise awareness for suicide prevention and protecting our veterans! In recognition of the #NationalDayOfService on 9/11, our team pulled off an amazing day FILLED with giving back across 3 different activations: 🌟 Our San Antonio team packed 1,200 comfort kits to senior veterans and military spouses at Meals on Wheels San Antonio alongside H-E-B, WellMed Medical Management, and Starbucks! 🌟 Our staff across the country wrote letters to deployed soldiers and veterans in partnership with Soldiers' Angels. 🌟 We collected new and gently used coats for children and adults in need through One Warm Coat. We want to thank our partners, volunteers, and employees for joining us on such an important day of remembrance and for your help in bringing our communities together in service.
