Licensed Attorney (New York & Ghana) Energy Law | Maritime Commerce & Tort | Ethics & Compliance | International Dispute Resolution
Greetings from Lexington, Kentucky! I had the privilege of attending the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation (EMLF'S) Fall Symposium, where we engaged in thought-provoking discussions on critical oil and gas topics such as PJM capacity prices, the impact of tax sales on mineral titles, onshore wind energy, and pore space rights for carbon capture and storage, among others. One of the highlights of the symposium was the attendance of 23 students from LSU Law, marking highest record number of participants from the John P. Laborde Energy Law Center. This achievement is a testament to the dedication of LSU Law and the tireless efforts of Professor Keith Hall. The event also provided valuable networking opportunities during the Happy Hour, and we capped off the day with a memorable visit to Bluegrass Distillery. It was a truly enriching experience! What did I do this week at the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation Fall Symposium in Lexington, KY? - Attended the Executive Committee Meeting and Dinner, - Received 9.0 hours of CLE, including 2.0 ethics, from energy experts (including the likes of Profs. Keith Hall and Bruce Kramer), - Served as Chief Judge for the finals of an energy focused moot court competition, feat. Oklahoma versus William & Mary, - Spent countless hours discussing current energy issues and exciting future plans for EMLF with a variety of lawyers from firms and companies that are on the cutting edge, and, last but not least, - Scored a bottle of Col. E.H. Taylor from Buffalo Trace Distillery.

The PFAS regulatory landscape is changing, and technical experts and environmental attorneys can learn a lot from each other about what these changes look like. To that end, H&A’s Leslie Nichols Nelson, P.E., and attorney Jennifer Simon recently joined forces for a presentation at the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation's Fall Symposium, where they discussed current and future PFAS regulations. Thrilled to have participated in the inaugural Moot Court competition at the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation Conference in Lexington, Kentucky last week. We tackled complex environmental and administrative law issues, drawing on recent significant Supreme Court cases like Loper Bright and Sackett. Proud to share that our team won Best Brief! Huge thanks to my incredible team, Caitlin Kwalwasser and Audrey Coffey, and our professor, Jennifer Franklin, for their help and support. I look forward to further developing my skills in future competitions.

Proud to say that I, along with my teammates, Alison Flamiano Domonoske and Keenan Bilyeu, finished as **FINALISTS** in our recent Moot Court competition, which was hosted by the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation during its 2024 Fall Symposium in Lexington, KY. We worked hard on complex issues in environmental and administrative law—issues made even more challenging by the recent Supreme Court decisions in Sackett and Loper-Bright. Special thanks belong to our coach, Professor Jennifer Franklin, to whom we owe our success.
