Attention local governments, nonprofits, and other tax-exempt entities! The IRS has recently announced an automatic 6-month extension to the deadline to file a Form 990-T, Tax Exempt Organization Business Income Tax Return, to take advantage of the direct pay (otherwise known as elective pay) provisions under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). This means that any eligible tax-exempt entity that was required to but did not file for an extension on Form 8868 (or filed too late) has been granted a 6-month extension to file for direct payments of eligible IRA clean energy tax credits for projects placed into service in 2023. The announcement also notes that the IRS has temporarily waived the requirement that Form 990-T be filed electronically; eligible entities can now file on paper as well. To read the announcement, visit: https://lnkd.in/eJwTvFrD For more information on the IRA direct pay provisions, see: https://lnkd.in/gEbcwmwj"
