Upcoming lunch and learn alert! 🥗 🌽 In this presentation, Captain Michael Stover, PE will explore the connection of water quality to the preservation of tribal sustenance practices, traditional lifeways and cultural connections to the natural environment in Native American communities. Legacy industrial toxins, hydropower without adequate fish passage, and the effects of climate change pose a threat to the survival of tribal cultural and dietary lifeways. Recent advances in federal policy and regulations are helping to thwart the impacts to Tribal culture through promulgation of protective water quality standards, permit conditions and industrial licensing. If you are interested in attending the lunch and learn, please visit this link to register: https://lnkd.in/e4cKuGsm The proceeds from registration for this presentation will be used for the Florida Professional Chapter of Engineers Without Borders' (EWB-FL) International Water Supply Project in Nepal. #ewb #engineering #engineerswithoutborders #ewbfl #florida #nepal #fundraising #webinar #water #civilengineering #asce #americansocietyofcivilengineers #environmentalengineering #waterquality #hydropower #climatechange #pdh

Khabari, a rural village situated far from another municipality, has long suffered from a lack of infrastructural development and basic amenities. Historically, the residents relied on river water and streams to fulfill their water requirements. However, as the population grew, these resources became increasingly polluted and unsuitable for consumption. The situation worsens during the rainy season when the water becomes completely unusable. Conversely, in the dry season, the water sources dry up, leaving the community without a nearby water supply. Check out this incredible video highlighting EWB-FLs recent assessment trip to Nepal to gather information about the Khabari village and coordinate with the local community Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) on solutions for Khabari's water scarcity and sanitation concerns. In close coordination with local community NGOs, EWB-FL is engaging local contractors to conduct surveys, water quality assessments, and transmissivity tests. This collaborative approach ensures the active involvement and empowerment of the community members. In the meantime, EWB-FL is exploring alternative solutions to address the water scarcity and sanitation issues in Khabari. #ewb #ewbfl #ewbusa #engineerswithoutborders #watersupply #waterengineering #nepal #engineering #waterengineering #watersanitation #watersupply

One month ago, EWB-FL volunteers visited Guatemala to kick-off Phase 2 of the Guatemala water supply project. Phase 2 of the project focuses on the design and construction of the distribution system and storage tank. The following items were accomplished on this trip: 1. EWB-FL inspected the existing storage tank to confirm what rehabilitation is required for long term use. 2. EWB-FL met with community members and EWB-Guatemala representatives to review design drawings and schedule to meet their needs. 3. EWB-FL performed a site visit in the village to determine the appropriate construction locations of the future distribution system. The design will be modified based on site observations. 4. EWB-FL met with the electrical company and pump vendor to confirm details for construction of the wellhead. 5. Finally, EWB-FL met with the mayor of the municipality of Sololá to get a signed agreement confirming they will support the project with a donation. The recent trip to Guatemala was widely successful! We are currently updating the design to reflect recent observations. The goal is to kick-off construction soon and complete the Guatemala water supply project by the end of this year! 😃 Thank you everyone that has donated or gone to one of our recent fundraising events. None of this work would be possible without you. We look forward to continuing work in Guatemala and Nepal! #ewb #ewbfl #engineerswithoutborders #water #watersupply #drinkingwater #engineering #guatemala #volunteering
