✨ 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂 "𝗙𝗮𝘁" ✨ In my latest podcast episode, I had an eye-opening conversation with Dr. Christopher Behringer, a Family Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine physician. We dove into an often overlooked topic: the importance of 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧-𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 in healthcare, especially for non-native English speakers. Dr. Behringer explained how defaulting to 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧-𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞—like "the diabetic patient" or "the obese woman"—can unintentionally dehumanize patients and damage trust. He emphasized that person-first language puts the human being front and center, saying instead, "the patient with diabetes" or "the woman with obesity." This simple shift can transform patient interactions and build stronger, more empathetic connections. He also believes that non-native English speakers hold an advantage over native speakers, as their heightened awareness of potential language barriers often drives them to be more intentional and empathetic in their communication. Listen in (the link is in the comments), and let's continue to work towards a more compassionate and inclusive healthcare system. 🎧💬 #healthcare #englishfluency #englishtips
