One of our hospice nurses, his patient and the patient’s family built a good-humored rapport. At a recent home visit, the patient wasn’t having a perky day, and his wife suggested having a “leather jacket day.” The patient loved riding motorcycles. The patient dismissed the idea, but his nurse, Ascension “Chon” Mojica, didn’t. Chon, his brother Alejandro “Alex” Mojica — who is also a nurse who worked with this patient — and social worker Danny Munguia visited the patient wearing leather jackets. The patient was elated. Kelly Galli, NP, is the sole provider at the Optimization Clinic. Local surgeons send patients to Kelly with goals they must meet before surgery can proceed. Thanks to Kelly’s efforts, the clinic has surpassed all expectations. The success rests firmly on Kelly. Without her dedication, many in our community would continue to suffer, and many surgeons would have to deny suffering patients much-needed surgery. Having a mastectomy or lumpectomy can leave women feeling uneasy about their appearance. To help, Knitted Knockers, a national nonprofit organization, provides hand-knitted breast prostheses free of charge. The simple prostheses can have a big impact, and North State patients used to be able to get these handcrafted items at Enloe Health Comprehensive Breast Care. Today, it can take about three months to receive the prostheses, said Moriah Crew, RN, Lead Oncology Nurse Navigator at Enloe Health. Crew hopes local knitters will lend their talents this fall and beyond, so the prostheses can once again become available. https://lnkd.in/gzxJTZG6

Nobody likes to wait. But the unwillingness to wait becomes especially keen when a person is sick or injured. Fortunately, wait times at Enloe Health’s Emergency Department are improving. “Fast-tracking” patients has become the standard, and wait times have decreased.

Telemetry Care had a very distraught and disoriented elderly patient. She was crying out about her “missing baby.” Liz Roberts and Jasmin Gallardo, CNAs, knew they needed to find a way to calm her. Using linens, a sock and an image printed from the computer, they constructed a baby. They brought this baby to the patient, who was immediately relieved. Later, Carlos Almanza, M.D., the patient’s provider, arrived. Liz and Jasmin made him aware of the situation, and he made sure to ask how the patient’s baby was before assessing her.
