Last year, we were asked to support this project on Mindful Materiality at the University of Virginia. The interdisciplinary team--from architecture, neuroscience and psychology--collected brain wave data on how environments with natural materials can reduce stress and improve well-being. We’re looking forward to visiting the project on Monday (set up in the psychology department at Gilmer Hall where I spent 5 years), meeting the amazing researchers and hearing about their good work! Thank you John Braley and Jenny Roe for connecting us! We’re looking forward to meeting Katie MacDonald, Architect, Kyle Schumann and others on the project!

Continuing our summer intern profiles, we are excited to welcome Jiayi Guo! Jiayi is a student at Cornell University, majoring in Design and Environmental Analysis with a minor in Healthy Futures. Her interests include sustainable buildings and communities, climate change, and environmental education. Her past experience with LEED for Cities for the City of Ithaca has inspired her to delve deeper into other certification frameworks. She sees this internship at E+AH as a fantastic opportunity to grow her skills and build connections within a nurturing team of mentors. Fun fact: Jiayi’s comfort food is homemade tomato noodle soup :)

We are excited to announce a small team of interns who will be working with us this summer! Kicking us off, meet Athena Fox. Athena is a rising junior from Brown University currently creating her own major with a concentration in Public Health and Architecture. She’s interested in universal design, equitable architecture, and all things biophilic. In her free time, she enjoys hands-on activities such as gardening, clay-making, and playing guitar. Fun fact: she’s taken Chinese for 15 years and is planning to study abroad in Beijing next summer. Athena is excited to bring her unique perspective and enthusiasm to E+AH this summer, and we are thrilled to have her on board!
