🌟 As an Enterprise Advisor, it has been an intriguing journey to support the development of the Housing as a Pathway to Justice (H2J) National Toolkit! This toolkit brilliantly navigates the interconnectedness of the housing and criminal legal systems. And I am excited that the toolkit is now live and accessible to the public! In this role, I've supported other projects that delve into housing and equity, promoting growth and advancement for all. Previously, we supported POAH’s Trauma-Informed Housing toolkit, which deepened my understanding of how housing and trauma can impact each other; while our work with Impact Justice’s Homecoming project introduced me to new innovations in addressing reentry barriers. The H2J National toolkit also explores these themes in addition to humanizing the barriers faced by those reentering the community. It also provides a practical framework for developers and others to center the needs of individuals reentering society, offering a solid starting point. Take a moment to explore this toolkit and share it with anyone who might benefit. Let’s continue to expand the way we think about housing and community development! 💪🏡
For people leaving prison, home is a necessary foundation on which they can rebuild all aspects of their lives. Our new resource – the Housing as a Pathway to Justice (H2J) National Toolkit – explores the intersection of housing and the criminal legal system. Created in collaboration with The Fortune Society, the toolkit features important context, guidance, and resources to help housing providers better understand and serve people impacted by the justice system. Half of American renters are cost-burdened. And the money they overspend on housing costs is equivalent to a year’s supply of gas and groceries combined. The data is clear — the country needs more #affordablehousing.

I've had the great privilege of being on the ground with James Sutton and the rest of the incredible Build Urban Prosperity (Build UP) team in Birmingham, Alabama, to see the great work they do every day in the classroom and community to increase homeownership access and revitalize neighborhoods. What an honor for us to be on this journey with BuildUp, the Wells Fargo Foundation, and all our amazing Housing Affordability Breakthrough Challenge innovators!
“People who do trade jobs are some of the smartest people on the planet. They really are people who make the world go around.” James Sutton is executive director of Build Urban Prosperity (Build UP), a winner of our Housing Affordability Breakthrough Challenge made possible with generous support from the Wells Fargo Foundation. At the heart of the innovation is the BuildUp Community School. The school readies young people for careers in the building trades, offers hands-on community revitalization opportunities, and provides a path to homeownership and building generational wealth.
