Two weekends ago I had the opportunity to attend EntoQuest 2024. As always, it was such a wonderful experience where I learned a bit more about entomology through different workshops (in particular Entomophagy and Macro photography!) and I got to help out in organizing the themed "Murdery Mystery" Ento-Mazing Race. It was so much fun! I can't wait for EntoQuest 2025! Entomological Society of America

New on Entomology Today: Monitoring for insect pests often requires accurate DNA testing of samples collected in the field. A new study shows DNA integrity in fruit flies degrades faster when samples lie in warmer, more humid conditions, a finding that can inform improved sampling techniques in the field.

New on Entomology Today: Small, biting flies that feed on deer and elk, deer keds are a nuisance for hunters as well as hikers in the northeastern U.S., where the adult flies emerge in the fall. A new study finds that common insect repellents fail to repel deer keds, but permethrin-treated clothing and nitrile gloves can make bites less likely.
