Environmental Design, Inc.'s California division transplanted three Hesperocyparis macrocarpa, or Monterey cypress trees, at Cypress Point Club. One 84" box and two 120" boxes to replace trees that died. Cypress Point Club is a private golf club located in Pebble Beach, California, at the northern end of the Central Coast. Two years ago, Environmental Design, Inc. began the process to transplant an amazing Albizia saman, or Rain tree, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for Cymbal Development. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the tree wasn't moved to its final destination until a year later in 2023. Check out these photos of the tree, one in 2022, 2023, and today in 2024. Developer Asi Cymbal sparked an outcry a decade ago when he announced plans to build apartment towers on the same 6-acre parcel where the tree was planted a century ago. The tree, now weighing a 1,500,000 lbs and 8' in diameter, was in the way and would need to be moved. Despite the chorus of critics, commissioners approved his request. "We would never get involved in a project unless we were assured a tree was going to live,” says Environmental Design owner, Tom Cox. “People remember when a tree dies. Our patients have to live. It’s just like a heart transplant doctor. You can’t just move it for the sake of a buck or at the whim of a developer. This fast-growing shade tree with a 90" rootball offers excellent resistance to Dutch elm disease, making it a valuable addition to neighborhoods combating this issue nationwide. Helix Parks is a first-of-its-kind green space that will weave through the heart of the Helix Park campus and provide TMC and Houston with an iconic public park. Designed by the Boston-based, award-winning landscape architecture firm mikyoung kim design, and spanning 300,000 SF, the Gardens will offer five public parks, each approximately the size of a football field (55,000 SF), linked in a unique double helix configuration. Lush lawns, grassy knolls, abundant tree canopies and engaging water features will grace curved walkways alongside cafes, retail shops and other public spaces. Individual gardens will host outdoor receptions, concerts, graduations and events of all sizes.
