✨ In the midst of one of the most infamous nuclear disasters, nature reveals its incredible resilience. Scientists have discovered a remarkable fungi in Chernobyl that absorbs radiation, turning one of the world’s most toxic environments into a testament of Earth’s ability to heal itself. This black fungi, known as Cryptococcus neoformans, thrives in high-radiation areas, transforming gamma radiation into chemical energy through a process similar to photosynthesis. It’s a powerful reminder that, even in the face of human-made catastrophes, nature finds a way to adapt and recover. 🌿🍄 Let’s marvel at the incredible ways our planet heals and take inspiration to support and protect our environment. Together, we can learn from these natural wonders and foster a healthier Earth. 💚 #nature #environment #science

  • Humans deliberately modify our environment like no other species. Plants, burrowing creatures and micro-organisms also constantly modify their environments, but not with grand intent. Folks who want us to return to pre- development conditions will be disappointed. However, we can, should and do learn from nature to protect the environment from unintended consequences. Knowledge is power.

  • Protecting our health and environment is all about soil. Degraded soil can be rehabilitate. We know alot and are sharing and learning constantly.

BIOCHAR + COMPOST NOT SYNTHETIC FERTILIZER 👋 So, picture this: you're a farmer – ambitious, passionate, and ready to make your mark on the world (or at least your little corner of it). You've got your crops to tend to, your soil to nourish, and your dreams to chase. But here's the million-dollar question: what are you feeding your plants? Synthetic fertilizers or biochar+compost? Now, I know what you're thinking. "Why should I bother with this biochar+compost stuff when I can just grab a bag of synthetic fertilizers and call it a day?" Well, my friends, buckle up because I'm about to take you on a wild ride and show you why biochar+compost is the hero your farm deserves.🌾 Imagine your farm as a movie set. You've got your leading lady (your plants) and a cast of supporting characters (microorganisms, worms, and all those critters that help break down organic matter). Now, what's the most important thing for a successful movie? The script, of course! And that's where biochar+compost comes in. Biochar+compost is like your screenplay. It's packed with all the essential nutrients, minerals, and organic matter your plants need to thrive. It's like giving them a personalized, Oscar-worthy script, tailored to their every need. Who needs a generic, one-size-fits-all synthetic fertilizer when you can have a blockbuster performance on your farm?🌱 But wait, there's more! Biochar+compost isn't just a nutrient powerhouse; it's also a master of moisture management. Think of it as the Leonardo DiCaprio of farming – always there, perfectly balancing the fine line between too dry and too wet. It's like having a personal assistant for your plants, making sure they stay hydrated without drowning in their own success. Now, let's talk about sustainability, shall we? In this day and age, everyone's looking for an eco-friendly solution. Well, biochar+compost is here to save the day, like a green superhero swooping in to save the planet. Unlike synthetic fertilizers that are loaded with chemicals and have a nasty habit of leaching into groundwater, biochar+compost is all-natural and won't harm the environment. It's like swapping out the Joker for a friendly, tree-hugging sidekick.🤞 And here's the grand finale: biochar+compost has a secret weapon that no synthetic fertilizer can match – it builds soil health. It's like the Rocky Balboa of farming, training your soil to become stronger, more resilient, and ready to go the distance. It improves soil structure, promotes beneficial microbial activity, and helps retain nutrients for the long haul. It's like giving your soil a shot of adrenaline, turning it into a champion that can withstand any challenge.💥💥 --------- So, my farming enthusiasts Give your plants the star treatment they deserve and watch them flourish like never before. Embrace the power of biochar+compost, and let your farm become the talk of the town. Lights, camera, action – it's time to make your farm shine! 🌱✨ Follow my page if you are new.

  • EMS is helping with an amazing project!! The City needed to create a camp for houseless persons. The available site is adjacent to the river and does not have public sewer. We are helping them with that issue. Because of contaminated soils, the site is not suitable for traditional onsite wastewater with soil dispersal. Projected peak sewage flow is 12,000 gallons per day. Large holding tanks would take longer to construct than available smaller tanks. A total of 16 tanks were designed flowing and recirculating, then pumping to a single sewage removal point. This system is intended to provide primary treatment and accept aeration for secondary treatment suitable for pumping long distance to sewer when available. Potentially this system will ultimately be converted to treat contaminated hydrocarbons in concert with Phyto & Myco Remediation in subsurface drip irrigation, trees and fungal species. Monitoring and testing to inform further design. Stay tuned.

  • Appears there is really no end to what we can still learn Thanks, Michal.

Heterogeneity of soil aggregates & microbial diversity 🦠🧱 🌱 Soil structure ultimately determines resource availability, regulating oxygen diffusion, water movement, as well as accessibility of organic matter and nutrients. 📊 Approximately 50-70% of identified bacterial and fungal taxa exhibit associations with specific particle size fractions. 🔬 Heterogeneity of soil aggregates affects the localization of different groups of microorganisms: 1️⃣ Smaller size fractions exhibit notably higher diversity in bacteria, archaea, and fungi. 2️⃣ More stable microaggregates with recalcitrant carbon sources support slow-growing, metabolically versatile oligotrophs. 3️⃣ In contrast, less stable macroaggregates, marked by more easily degradable carbon compounds, favour the proliferation of fast-growing copiotrophic microbes adapted to readily available carbon sources. 4️⃣ Only a minor fraction (<10%) of microorganisms resides on macroaggregate surfaces directly exposed to large pores. 5️⃣ Microbial communities associated with the aggregates are largely isolated due to distance and physical barriers but interconnect during re-wetting events.
