❓Have you ever wondered why data validation is important, even when your lab is accredited and has quality assurance and control measures in place?🔬 🔎 Recent reviews of environmental data reported by two analytical laboratories uncovered instances of low-level false positive results. Stories like this underscore the significance of robust QA programs and the pivotal role third-party data validation plays in upholding data integrity and ensuring that data used for decision-making is of high quality. 📊 In our most recent issue of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘥, Principal Chemist Erin Rodgers discusses the recent false-positive incidents, outlines the key components of an effective QA program, and explains the critical role of third-party data validation: https://hubs.ly/Q02Wr_sB0 #EnvironmentalStandards #AnalyticalLaboratories #QualityAssurance #QualityControl #QAProgram #DataValidation #DataIntegrity

In April 2024, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced enforceable limits for six per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) compounds in drinking water. While the impacts to existing compliance programs, such as local and federal discharge permits, are unknown, it is clear that the collection of representative samples for PFAS analysis is essential. In our most recent issue of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘥, Project Geoscientist Sydney Maddux details important do’s and don’ts to follow while collecting material for PFAS testing: https://hubs.ly/Q02SrSV90 #EnvironmentalStandards #TheStandard #PFAS #PFASSampling #PFASTesting #PFASAnalysis #PFASCompliancePrograms #PFASRegulations #USEPA #EPA #EnvironmentalProtectionAgency

👩🏻⚖️ In 1984, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of giving the executive branch agency (in that particular case, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)) the authority to interpret the fundamental statutes that it is responsible for carrying out – and the Chevron deference, or more famously named “The Chevron Doctrine” was born. ⏩ Fast forward to 2023, and we have a case that involves an entirely different agency: The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). The U.S. Supreme Court ultimately overturned the Chevron Doctrine by ruling in favor of the plaintiffs Loper Bright Enterprises et al. in the now landmark case of Loper Bright Enterprises et al. v. Raimondo, Secretary of Commerce, et al. The decision was just published in July 2024. 🗞️ In our September issue of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘥, Project Data Manager Mark Lybeer and Principal Geoscientist Jacob Gruzalski unpack what the Chevron Doctrine is and what it means to our industry: https://hubs.ly/Q02Sr8SM0 #EnvironmentalStandards #TheStandard #USSupremeCourt #SupremeCourt #USEPA #ChevronDeference #TheChevronDoctrine #ChevronDoctrine

🍸 The spirit of sustainability is strong at Philadelphia Distilling. In April, Katelyn Kelly learned a lot about the art of distilling spirits and the important steps being taken toward environmental sustainability, all while sipping a delicious cocktail. She wrote about her experience in the last issue of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘥. 🌱 The tour was organized by SWEP of Greater Philadelphia and was attended by several Environmental Standards employees. Founded in 2005, and now owned by Heaven Hill Brands, Philadelphia Distilling is the first craft distillery in Pennsylvania since the time of prohibition. Following the tour, the Director of Environment and Sustainability Rachel Nally spoke in detail about the company’s sustainability efforts. Read Katelyn’s article to learn more about the distillery, and how they are innovating to lessen their environmental impact 👉🏼 https://hubs.ly/Q02MxQ1L0 #SWEP #EnvironmentalProfessionals #PhiladelphiaDistilling #Distillery #PhiladelphiaDistillery #PennsylvaniaDistillery #PhiladelphiaSmallBusiness #HeavenHillBrands #CraftDistillery #Sustainability #EnvironmentalSustainability #Composting #BennettCompost #EnvironmentalImpact #SustainableSmallBusiness

⚠️When per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination is allegedly found at or near a site, how can its origin be determined? 🧪 Is it from operations on the site, or is it coming from a nearby airport, fire-training station, manufacturing facility, landfill, incinerator, military base, or even a neighboring farm due to the application of biosolids? These are important questions to ask because the sources of PFAS are numerous and not always evident or obvious. 👩🏾🔬🧑🏼🔬 Environmental Standards’ Multi-disciplinary Team of senior scientific experts including Senior Forensic Chemists and Fate and Transport Scientists has the experience to research, develop site-specific models, identify and “fingerprint” one or more of the PFAS sources. All key staff are experienced in litigation support including providing expert testimony and serving as fact witnesses. 🖱️Click here to learn more about our PFAS Forensics capabilities, techniques, and service offerings: https://hubs.ly/Q02M6QlJ0 #PFAS #PFASContamination #PFASSources #PFASForensics #PFASFingerprinting #Chemists #PFASLitigation #PFASLitigationSupport #PFASExpertTestimony #PFASFactWitnesses #ForensicChemists #ForensicChemistry #FateandTransport

Hear from our Senior Principal Chemist, David Blye, on the latest update regarding US EPA Method 1633 for PFAS analysis:
Dive into the future of water quality and environmental protection with David’s insightful analysis! “Is EPA Method 1633 on the Horizon for Clean Water Act Promulgation?” is our latest PFAS blog post from David Blye, Senior Principal Chemist. David explores the rapid advancements in PFAS regulations and the recommendation for US EPA Method 1633 to measure PFAS in non-drinking water. Despite the urgency, recent discussions with the US EPA suggest that Method 1633 may not be proposed for promulgation before the end of 2024. 🔗 https://hubs.ly/Q02LjQnb0 #CleanWaterAct #PFAS #EPAMethod1633
