Envision provides services to people of all ages. From providing employment, to providing a sense of community, to administering rehabilitation and training, to giving much needed resources, the goal is always the same – independence and a better quality of life. This is how Envision transforms lives. The rate of blindness and visual impairment is staged to increase at a rate that could be likened to an epidemic. Without research, education and rehabilitation, those who live with or will live with a visual impairment will not be able to maintain quality of life. Addressing these needs now is crucial. From the millions of hours of employment to the thousands of individuals who have benefited from vision rehabilitation services, Envision works to provide choices, resources and advocacy for people who are blind or low vision. Envision’s mission encompasses all departments, branches and locations under the Envision name. It touches every job and employee on a day-to-day basis, uniting us in our goals: To improve the quality of life and provide inspiration for the blind and visually impaired through employment, outreach, rehabilitation, education and research. Behind this is a simple thought: to improve others’ lives. To impact an individual or family in a positive and lasting way. This is why we exist and what drives us to succeed in our endeavors.

Our President and CEO, Michael Monteferrante, and our Director of Digital Accessibility, Mika Pyyhkala, were honored to start off the 2024 National Industries for the Blind /NAEPB Training Conference and Expo by speaking on a panel with leaders from NSITE! The panel highlighted our growing partnership with NSITE and discussed improved business model plans for organizational growth. One of the main goals of this plan is to create a more direct and positive impact on job seekers who are blind or visually impaired.

Vision loss can take many forms. Recently, our Occupational Therapist, Karen Kendrick, found a creative solution for a patient with severe scoliosis who couldn't lift her head to see forward. Karen inverted Bed Spectacles, typically used to look downward, allowing the patient to see straight ahead for the first time in years! Thanks to Karen's innovativeness, the patient has expressed how grateful she is to finally be able to watch TV again, see her caregiver in front of her, notice obstacles in front of her, and more!
