TRAUMA TRIGGERS TRAUMA finds its way into the forefront and it seems as if only “kitty” understands, accepts, and unconditionally loves me no matter all the faults, mistakes, and difficulties. Trauma comes with times of extreme loneliness, self-doubt, and feeling lost. I will always continue to do the work and use the tools I have learned… But, today it hurts and I sit fully in the raw emotions and kitty and Emmie sit closely letting me know “We are here for you Mom.” Dealing with these moments hard, raw, and suck… I would love nothing more than to not have to live with trauma triggers. It is the real reality though having survived years of trauma.

I AM SO EXCITED AND HUMBLED... I just accepted an invitation to speak for an event at Clemson University!!! I will be speaking on the issues of schools being restricted (mainly high school-age students) from allowing young women to read books that share real stories of girls and young women who have survived sexual assault and escaped their human trafficking kidnappers. I have spoken with numerous high school teachers who shared the reality that their high school has NEVER had any speakers, informative groups, or information shared at the school on domestic violence, teenage dating violence, or what to do should a student currently be experiencing such trauma... It is painful to know that still, in 2024, the crisis our country is experiencing with domestic, sexual, and human trafficking violence is a silenced topic. How do these numbers get reduced, then? * 1-10 teenagers have experienced teen dating violence * 26.4% of women and 6.8% of men in college experience sexual * 42% of college students experience sexual harassment * 53% of college students have experienced domestic violence from a boyfriend/girlfriend * 60% of college rapes are by an acquaintance in a casual or steady relationship The nonverbal communication SPEAKS loudly to our youth that silence, educating, and empowering our youth is an acceptable "avoidance" on recognizing abuse, building self-worth, and there is strength in breaking your silence. BUT we will be shocked to hear and see another news story of a beautiful youth who has fallen victim to such violence. Domestic Violence Awareness Month begins next week (Oct. 1-31).
