Tomorrow, August 20, is World Mosquito Day — an annual global observance marking the historic discovery that female Anopheles mosquitoes transmit #malaria between humans.   Malaria, dengue, leishmaniasis and Chagas disease are just a sample of the vector-borne illnesses that affect more than half of the world’s population. And preventing transmission is especially important today as we witness a convergence of vector-borne diseases and the emergence of new pests, like the tiger mosquito in Africa. This is one of many reasons why Envu is dedicated to 360 innovation to deliver a broad range of solutions to meet the evolving nature of the #mosquito and other #publichealth pests.   With over 60 years of experience combating vector-borne diseases we remain steadfast in our commitment to deliver solutions and work closely with both public and private sector teams to make a lasting impact toward protecting public health in our communities. In the next chapter of our “Innovation Behind the Scenes” series – featured below - we introduce you to Melanie Nolden, early development lead, Professional Pest Management, Envu. In her role, Melanie insect rears different common pests including mosquitoes, cockroaches, bed bugs, and more. And testing new active ingredients to be used in insecticides and other #Envu solutions that help prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases like malaria is one of her key focus areas. When new concepts for mosquito control solutions arise, Envu R&D leads like Melanie are testing them with artificial blood-feeding systems for our female mosquitoes’ egg production so we can effectively control future generations.   At Envu, we know that nature is always changing, which means pests like mosquitoes are too. They are adapting to better suit their environments, evading threats, and finding new ways to challenge us and our methods. Through accessing new active ingredients to develop novel innovations, formulating existing active ingredients in creative new ways and in-licensing technologies to offer new rotational solutions, we fully leverage our industry-leading capabilities to stay ahead of evolving threats. Because preventing the threat of mosquitoes today means we can help communities thrive tomorrow. To be a positive force for human health, we must be a force with nature.   In observance of #WorldMosquitoDay, we encourage you to read more about our commitment to strategic partnerships, vector research and innovation to advance healthy environments for everyone everywhere here: https://lnkd.in/gCDHZGtc

Members of our Envu APAC team recently had the pleasure of participating in the FAOPMA Pest Summit 2024 hosted by the Indian Pest Control Association (IPCA) in Mumbai, India. As the leading #pestmanagement event in Asia-Oceania, the Federation of Asian and Oceania Pest Managers’ Association Pest Summit represents the largest global association in the industry — including 17 country associations dedicated to protecting the lives and homes of over 4 billion people around the world.   Over three action-packed days, our Envu exhibit welcomed valued customers and pest management professionals from across the region eager to learn more about our innovative solutions and portfolio of products. In the booth, we showcased product packaging design, offering a hands-on experience for attendees to interact with #Envu products. The event was enriched by thought-provoking presentations and panel discussions from leading pest management experts across India, offering invaluable insights and a bold vision for the future of sustainable pest management.   Our very own Arunkumar Manoharan (Arun), managing director of Envu India, delivered a speech titled “The Future Is Envu,” where he discussed our focus on solving the problems of today without losing sight of our vision for tomorrow. “You, our customers, are at the center of everything we do,” said Arun. “We are proud to have spent the past 50 years helping shape the pest control industry through innovations driven by your needs, and we will commit to do the same in the next 50 years as well.” In addition, Dr. Arun Kumar, head of digital and data science with Envu, participated on a panel discussion about technology in IPM services - practicalities, options and results, during which he shared his thoughts on this topic as well as the advent of A.I. And special thanks as well to Dr. Pasupathy Venkat of Pariksha who spoke about the importance of pest management in food spaces.   Events like FAOPMA Pest Summit are fundamental to us at Envu. They give us an opportunity to live out our commitment to #StartWithTheCustomer, yielding invaluable customer insights and relationship-building so we can continue adapting to remain at the forefront of pest management innovation. Thank you to all of our customers, partners and employees who contributed to the event's success and to FAOPMA and IPCA for this incredible opportunity.    Together, we are advancing healthier environments for everyone everywhere.

We are thrilled to share our most recent collaboration with Bio-Gene Technology Limited, an Australian company developing the next generation of novel bioinsecticides, to evaluate Flavocide™ for use in professional pest management and #publichealth products to control #mosquitoes.   Flavocide is a nature-identical product based on flavesone, a naturally occurring plant compound present in some eucalypts. The solution exhibits a new mode of action — that is, the way an insecticide controls or knocks down an insect — and is able to overcome insect resistance to current insecticidal products.    Mosquitoes are constantly adapting to their environments to evade threats, making it challenging to manage the spread of serious vector-borne diseases like malaria, dengue fever and Zika virus. So, insecticide innovations — like Flavocide, that offer new modes of action — are essential to combat insecticide resistance and ensure future global food security and public health around the globe.    The collaboration combines Bio-Gene’s discovery and development pipeline with our formulation expertise to maximize efficacy. Together, we have successfully evaluated several formulations of Flavocide to target mosquitoes and will continue to evaluate Flavocide for a range of professional use products so that we can continue to advance healthier environments and better control this public health pest.    “We are pleased to be working with Bio-Gene to formulate and evaluate Flavocide for use in mosquito management applications,” said Bernard Jacqmin, senior vice president - head of global innovation, Envu. “Flavocide is derived from nature and, based on our testing completed to date, has demonstrated a favorable profile to combat mosquitoes. Our combined efforts are already showing promising results in the testing phase, and we are excited about the potential benefits for consumers and professionals in the field.”   We look forward to continuing to work closely with partners like Bio-Gene to bring cutting-edge solutions to the market. Because only through widespread and consistent innovation with trusted partners can we Be a Force With Nature to shape a world where humanity and nature can both thrive. Wildfires are devastating natural disasters experienced in several regions around our planet. Currently, as #wildfires are ravaging the western United States and Canada, the need for effective prevention strategies is more urgent than ever. According to the National Interagency Fire Center, more than 88 large wildfires are actively burning across the U.S. and over 4.7 million acres (1.9 million hectares) of land have already been burned this year alone. This situation has been worsened in some areas by a wet winter and spring that fueled rapid vegetation growth, followed by record-breaking heat. NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration data shows that July 22, 2024, was Earth's hottest day on record, underlining the increasing severity of heat waves driven by #climatechange. But rising temperatures aren’t the only factor. Invasive annual grasses such as cheatgrass, medusahead and ventenata have been spreading across western U.S. rangelands for years, significantly contributing to these devastating wildfires by acting as highly flammable "fine fuels” that lead to more intense and fast-spreading flames. Our U.S. Envu Range & Pasture team is helping to address this crisis through its Share the Spark Project, which aims to drive awareness about grant funding available to #ranchers, land managers and county weed coordinators to help fund wildfire prevention measures — including #herbicides that target and effectively control invasive annual grasses. “We've seen a huge shift from perennial stands of grass, which are more natural and desirable in terms of watershed health, over to invasive annual grasses, which bring a lot of issues. The wildlife don't find them very palatable, and they can take over quite a bit of ground very quickly,” shared Kyle Sullivan, a soil and water conservation district manager in Grant County, Oregon, which started using Rejuvra ®  herbicide to manage invasive grasses several years ago. “We started to see these catastrophic wildfires, their devastation, and their impacts to our landowners and the ecosystems that we’d been working so hard to enhance. And [we] started to apply that more on the landscape and recognized the value of Rejuvra herbicide for treating the fine fuels and basically adding a measure of protection for the range ground. The long-term goal is to control the [invasive grass] population and get it down to a manageable level, so the herbicide is just absolutely critical to provide that coverage. Nothing else compares.” As wildfires continue to rage on, the resources nature provides become even more precious. That’s why Envu is working alongside ranchers, land managers and county weed coordinators to provide treatment solutions to target and control invasive grasses and weeds that fuel wildfires. To be a positive force for the land, we must be a force with nature. Learn more about the Share the Spark Project and how Envu is sparking a change for good: https://lnkd.in/gQ-RvEf5

This week, we’re thrilled to kick off our #MakingAnImpactMonday series!   In this series, you’ll learn about Envu research studies, innovations, conservation efforts and more from our inaugural sustainability report highlighting our commitment to #environmentalstewardship and creating spaces where nature and society can thrive together.   With yesterday - July 28 - being World Nature Conservation Day, we’d like to first spotlight one of our key initiatives in invasive species control on St Helen’s Island, an uninhabited island off the southwest coast of Cornwall, England. This vital breeding ground and habitat for seabirds faces threats from rats that prey on nests, chicks and even adult birds.   In an effort to protect the seabird populations from these invasive pests, Envu proudly partnered with the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) to manage the rat population on St Helen’s Island while ensuring no harm to the environment or non-target species. The collaborative efforts at St Helen’s Island underscores the power of strategic partnerships and proactive #conservation to support a flourishing habitat for future generations.   Learn more about the St Helen’s Island conservation project and how Envu is making an impact by clicking the image below.
