EOA was honored to receive an AIA Tennessee Merit Award for the Smyrna Ready Mix Corporate Headquarters during AIA Tennessee's annual Design Awards program. The program celebrates design excellence in architecture across the entire state. Jurors commented that "the entire building is a great showcase of what concrete can do. The way the architect treated the concrete is very light and sculptural. It feels plastic and malleable. In addition to the board formed concrete the jury also appreciated the glass detailing and how the building evokes the idea of a quarry by building the inverse of a quarry." Fourteen built projects were unanimously chosen to be recognized from a group of 163 submittals, all of which received thoughtful consideration. The jurors noted the diverse range of work and elegant solutions to challenges presented. “The jury was impressed by the quality and variety of architectural practice demonstrated by the submission of executed projects realized across the state of Tennessee”. This week we celebrated Associate-Principal Michael Wasyliw and his 10-year commitment to making EOA a better studio and better place to work! Michael (Waz) joined EOA in 2014 after graduating from the University of Tennessee and has continued to elevate our practice and projects. We are honored to announce the St. Joseph Catholic Church has been selected to be the 2024 recipient of the Ida Lee Willis Historic Preservation Project Award presented by the Ida Lee Willis Memorial Foundation. The ceremony will take place this Wednesday, May 22nd at the Old Kentucky State Capitol Building in downtown Frankfort. The church was originally designed in the German Romanesque style, over a 14-year period from 1870 to 1884. In 2018, EOA began the interior and exterior envelope restoration of the church, bringing together many artisans to resurrect the sanctuary back to its former glory. EOA’s scope included structural stabilization of roof and floor connections, exterior envelope restoration, renovation of restrooms to increase capacity and sensitive modifications to provide ADA access to the main entrance to the church. Conrad Schmitt Studios, out of New Berlin, Wisconsin, took on the challenge of restoring and re-inventing the interior of the sanctuary with historic photographs providing clues to stencil patterns and colors. Replication of these elements contributes to the authentic historic character of the interior. It has been a 2+ year journey that culminated in an amazing night this week for @friendsbarnash. EOA has enjoyed every moment working with Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood on their “ultimate oasis”, their 5-story honky-tonk bar along the neon lights of Broadway in the heart of downtown Nashville. “This was so much more than I bargained for! With that said, what we have built is far more than just a business,” Brooks said in a statement. “This is by far, the craziest ride I have ever been on.” Yearwood added, “We started down this road fueled by passion, dedication, and a shared vision. I’m really proud of the team that has built the Friends Bar and Honky Tonk. We are excited to share the culmination of everyone’s efforts. It’s even bigger than we dreamed!” EOA’ers enjoyed an early preview with friends and family on Tuesday, with the public opening tonight, March 7th! Big kudos to our amazing team members Tracey Ford, Michaila Crislip, Brandon Griffin and Gary Everton. So excited to share the news!! The Tennessee Titans today announced the complete Architecture and Engineering (A&E) team for the New Nissan Stadium. The robust stadium project team is comprised of 24 firms, including nine local businesses and 13 disadvantaged business enterprises (DBEs). “We are tremendously excited by this A&E team, both for its considerable talent and its strong mix of local and diverse perspectives.” said Adolpho A. Birch III, Titans Senior Vice President and Chief External & League Affairs Officer. It was a great morning on November 14 at ULI Nashville Emerging Trends in Real Estate 2024 Breakfast! The program started with greetings from ULI Nashville Chair, Sheila Dial Barton; Nashville / Davidson County Mayor, Freddie O'Connell; and Emerging Trends Presenting Sponsor, Doug Hart with Walker & Dunlop. Haley Anderson from PwC shared the findings from the Emerging Trends in Real Estate® 2024 report. Following the keynote session, the audience heard from a local panel of experts: - Jimmy Granbery | H.G. Hill Realty Company, LLC - Ben Weprin | AJ Capital Partners - Caroleen Wilkes | Wood Partners - Janet Miller (Moderator) | Colliers The event wrapped up with comments from the Capital Markets Action Council Co-Chairs, Stephen Brink with First Southern Mortgage and Jody Moody with The Mathews Company. They have served as the Co-Chairs of the Capital Markets Action Council for the past 10 years with this year's Emerging Trends being the last one of their tenure. 10,000 decisions. That’s what goes into designing a multi-use facility with 80 units of affordable housing. Splayed out in front of us yesterday, as seen in the photo below, are decisions 8,437-8,675 that we needed to make while I was in town yesterday. I can offer nothing but the highest praise for EOA, the Nashville based architectural and design firm. They have approached the design for the Inspiritus affordable housing project in Nashville with skill, experience, curiosity, aplomb and loads of patience.
