we always appreciate the stage at Global AgInvesting…and having the opportunity to share it with Peter Walter of LEK to examine the evolution of the agricultural enterprise into tech-driven infrastructure. from Equilibrium Capital’s vantage point as a leader in CEA and bio-energy generation, we saw and participated in the growth of these ag infrastructure business models and assets. add to this the rapid consolidations we see in multiple agriculture value chains, the huge needs for capital in fixed assets, and the challenges of scaling process intensive operations and it’s no longer simply about “the farm”….which means huge changes in how you invest in agriculture. the 2022-2023 carnage in vertical farms and start up greenhouses companies was real, but it misses two trends: 1. the vertical farm technology is a tool in an early phase of its S-curve of performance/productivity and cost. it is a tool looking for the niches where its functions are a clear competitive advantage. these are all natural evolutions on the tech curve…i think we are finding those unique vertical farm use case niches and some of the practical vertical farm players are coming down the cost curves. 2. the consolidation of the greenhouse sector into “5-ish” dominate national players in each of the major produce categories. - in the case of tomatoes, this has resulted in several $billion+ revenue market share leading players. - this is also happening in leafy greens, where we may be down to a handful of players with the ability to carve out a national presence and leadership. little leaf and revol are clearly two of the revenue leading players in that handful of emergent market leaders in leafy; Equilibrium Capital is proud to be a partner with both. thx Adam Bergman for your thoughtful comments. #cea #sustainablefinance #climatechange #climateadaptation

After a year of highly negative press on the indoor farming sector, it was wonderful to see this positive article written by the Boston Globe about Little Leaf Farms, a leading greenhouse company. Congratulations to Paul Sellew, William Hogan, Matthew Meisel, Jed Sekaran and the Little Leaf Farms management and Board on all the progress the company has made. According to the Boston Globe article, Little Leaf Farms is the market leader for packaged salads in New England with key retail customers including Stop & Shop, Walmart, Shaw’s, and Whole Foods Market. Unlike most indoor farming companies which are struggling to achieve growth, Little Leaf expects annual revenue this year will cross $100 million, more than five times what it generated in 2019. During that time period, the company has grown its workforce more than six-fold to 300 people. Little Leaf Farms’ first indoor farm was opened in Devens, Massachusetts in 2015, and it recently opened a new farm in McAdoo, Pennsylvania, the largest indoor farm in that state. https://lnkd.in/gxYbpjbZ Dave Chen Nick Houshower Kimberley Player Michele Grossman Maya Chorengel Aaron Liu John Collmer Jennifer Acerra Collene Greenlee #indoorag #indoorfarming #verticalfarming #foodsecurity #foodtech #food #sustainability #sustainable #sustainableag #sustainabledevelopment #climatechange #cleantech #climate #agtech #agriculture #farming #foodindustry #technology #innovation #investment #finance
