Recently, our Managing Director of Investments, A. Brad Feine, went back to his alma matter, University of Wisconsin–Madison, to share his expertise in their Graduate-level Real Estate Course which was recently ranked as the #1 program in the country by U.S. News.   The class consisted of 20 students who were considering a career in Real Estate—either as an investor or a developer. Brad shared information and insights on real estate investing through an insurance company, but also spoke to the students on designated career paths. Ultimately, he demonstrated that insurance companies aren’t boring places to work, but can offer fascinating, cutting-edge projects on the investment side similar to those of private equity investors.   For Brad, the experience was a big honor and carried a lot of meaning as he helped to foster the next generation of Real Estate investors/developers. In fact, due to Brad’s great presentation, he was invited back next semester to share even more knowledge and insights to the class. When reflecting on the experience, Brad couldn’t help but remember what it was like when he sat through the same curriculum:   “It felt pretty nostalgic to be back on Campus (I haven’t walked into the business school in over 20 years) and to be standing in front of a class giving the lecture. Also, somewhat strange as I remember like it was yesterday sitting in the same seats as a student. One of the key attributes of the program is the involvement of the network of UW-Madison Real Estate alumni who are continuously giving back to the school so it was rewarding to contribute and play a role in the development of these future alumni.”   Thank you Brad for helping to inspire the next generation and give back to the community. In this month’s Employee Spotlight, we’re proud to feature Jeff Wise, one of our Systems Analysts at EquiTrust. Since joining EquiTrust in 2023, Jeff has been an integral part of our IT team by designing, building, and collaborating on middleware systems that enable seamless data exchange across EquiTrust’s various systems. Major Accomplishment: New API System One of Jeff’s major accomplishments was leading the creation and design of the company’s new API system which is readily available to our IMO partners. This system provides near real-time access to critical data which has positioned EquiTrust as the one of the first in the annuity space to offer this level of innovation and cutting-edge solutions to our sales partners. The Evolution of EquiTrust’s IT Landscape Since the start of Jeff’s tenure, he’s been a part of some incredible, positive shifts in the company’s IT environment. EquiTrust has rolled out tools and systems that make data sharing seamless and more efficient. While the pace of change in the industry is fast, Jeff and the IT team are embrace this movement by dedicating resources to large-scale projects to streamline company operations. Jeff says, “Now is not the time for complacency, and it's clear that the company is committed to staying ahead of the curve.” Harnessing Opportunities for Growth/Development According to Jeff, the company has provided ample opportunities for growth and he has always welcomed the challenges. Earlier in the year, the company sent Jeff to San Francisco and Silicon Valley where he met with innovation teams from companies like Amazon, Docusign, and Plug & Play. Jeff was inspired and gained a better understanding of what was on the technological horizon and brought those ideas back to EquiTrust. A Winning Team Jeff enjoys his work at EquiTrust and values the collaborative IT environment. They are closely connected and as the team learns and grows, it opens the door for more opportunities of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and development. Jeff enjoys meeting regularly with the team to discuss planned tasks and also have spontaneous conversations about solving challenges, refining code, and phasing out outdated processes. Jeff says it best, “It’s a supportive, collaborative environment where learning and knowledge sharing are valued, and as our team expands, we continue to find new ways to improve.” Balancing Work and Life The IT staff understands the importance of a balanced work environment and enables Jeff to work a hybrid schedule, spending only one day a week in the office. Jeff says this allows him flexibility while also staying connected to the team. Furthermore, the team finishes at 2 p.m. on Fridays which Jeff calls an extraordinary perk. Jeff thank you for your valuable contributions to EquiTrust and for the passion you showcase every day. 🏈 IT’S FOOTBALL SEASON! 🏈 To kick off the football season, EquiTrust decided to host a very special Iowa vs Iowa State Tailgate Party for the employees at our West Des Moines Office this afternoon.   We set up some Iowa and ISU tents, catered in some delicious tailgating food from Hy-Vee, Inc., featured some fun games, and even hosted a few contests where the employees could win prizes.   Overall, the day was a great success as we had an impressive turnout and a lot of fun heading into the fall and football season.   A huge thank you to our employees who not only put on such a fun event, but also continue to showcase their hardwork and dedication each day.
