Why does there seem to be an increase in private companies lately? 🤔 The secret is in their ability to raise funds while staying private. *Not all pre-IPO companies will go public or be acquired, and not all IPOs or acquisitions are or will become successful investments. There are inherent risks in pre-IPO investments, including the risk of loss of the entire investment, illiquidity, and fluctuations in value and returns. Investors must be able to afford the loss of their entire investment. Not investment advice.

CEO at EquityZen - The marketplace for the private companies.

Thanks Andy Serwer for sharing EquityZen’s origin story and the potential of private market investing. When I was growing up, I’m not sure I could have ever dreamed that these would be the opening lines to a Barron's feature: "It’s a classic entrepreneur’s origin story: Guy encounters a knotty problem—and starts a company to fix it. "Back in 2012, Atish Davda wanted to buy an engagement ring for his fiancée but didn’t have the cash because a significant chunk of his wealth was tied up in shares of a private company. 'I tried selling my private stock,' he says. 'It was incredibly difficult, with hundreds of pages of legal documents.'" https://lnkd.in/eG42s6gQ

This experience inspired him to start EquityZen, which is redefining access to investing in the private markets. To learn more about Atish’s journey and the pros and cons of pre-IPO investing, check out the Barron’s article linked in comments.
