  • The Igniting Hope Conference took place at the Jacobs School of Medicine on September 21, bringing together community leaders, residents, University at Buffalo faculty, and local organizations to tackle health equity and the social determinants of health. This year’s theme highlighted the intersection of environmental factors with social determinants and environmental justice. Participants engaged in breakout sessions, with support from the Erie County Department of Health Office of Health Equity, which assisted with reporting out and event logistics. The event fostered valuable discussions and collaborations aimed at creating a healthier, more equitable community for all.

  • A great announcement to make during National Preparedness Month! The Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) has been recognized by the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) for its ability to plan for, respond to, and recover from public health emergencies. ECDOH and its Office of Public Health Emergency Preparedness demonstrated these capabilities by meeting the comprehensive preparedness benchmarks required by Project Public Health Ready (PPHR), a unique partnership between NACCHO and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). ECDOH joins a cohort of more than 550 local health departments across the country, and just one other New York county health department, that is distinguished for excellence in preparedness through PPHR. https://lnkd.in/gSHZQJRt

  • Erie County acknowledged Suicide Prevention Month with a flag raising ceremony and remarks today outside the Rath Building in downtown Buffalo. Erie 1 BOCES students composed an original song, with powerful lyrics and melody, which they played for representatives from the Erie County Suicide Prevention Coalition and guests. Thanks to the Erie County Department of Mental Health, Crisis Services and all other organizations that attended today to raise awareness about this important issue. Save 9-8-8 into your phone - this is direct access to trained, compassionate counselors who can help people facing mental health struggles and crises. You are not alone.
