If you're at the #RAESummit and have found yourself wondering why or how to engage in the U.S. federal policy process, don't miss this session! DC needs your voice. Tomorrow in room Potomac 3/4 | 10:30 a.m.
Have you ever asked yourself: why should you engage in the U.S. federal policy process? What difference can you make as one person or one organization when it comes to progress on ocean, coasts, science, and conservation? Here's my answer: you can make a difference, and we need your voice in Washington, DC. You only need the right tools. If you're attending Restore America's Estuaries Coastal & Estuarine Summit this week this week, stop by to hear my talk about why, and how, you should be a part of the U.S. ocean policy process. 📢"Policy, Partnerships and Tools to Support Coastal Management" Session 📍Hyatt Regency Crystal City At Reagan National Airport | Room Potomac 3/4 ⏰Tuesday, October 8 | 10:30a.m. ET And, if you're not at #RAE2024 or in DC this week but you still want to learn more, drop me a message to chat! #Congress #USpolicy #oceanpolicy #sciencepolicy #advocacy ESP Advisors

Just a few days until the Restore America's Estuaries 2024 Summit here in Washington, DC (or, right across the river)! Emily S. Patrolia will be moderating Monday’s “Keeping Congress Engaged in Coastal and Estuarine Restoration” panel. See you there? 📍Hyatt Regency Crystal City At Reagan National Airport | Room Potomac 3/4 ⏰Monday, October 7 | 3:30p.m. ET Bob Stokes, President of the Galveston Bay Foundation, will introduce this panel of amazing speakers: – Elizabeth W. Mabry, Deputy Staff Director (Majority), Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works – Tim Petty, Senior Professional Staff Member (Majority), House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment – Alicia Smith, Executive Director, @the Junction Coalition – Mike De Luca, Manager, Jacques Cousteau Reserve – Joyce Novak, PhD, Executive Director, Peconic Estuary Partnership This session will draw on the expertise of those intimately familiar with the process for both reauthorizing important coastal and estuarine statutes (the National Estuary Program, the National Estuarine Research Reserve System, the Community based Restoration Program, Coastal Resilience Grants, and many others) and funding coastal programs. Panelists will focus on the influx of federal funding through multiple sources, including normal appropriations and BIL/IRA funding, and discuss how these once in a lifetime dollars can be coordinated and optimized to benefit estuary restoration and resilience. #Estuaries #RAESummit #RestoreAmericasEstuaries #NationalEstuaryProgram #NERRA

Congress was busy in the week leading up to October recess! What did Members get up to? What's up with government funding? What are we in for when Congress returns? Find out in this week's Ocean Policy Roundup! News highlights: – Congress passed a short-term government spending bill that will fund the government at current levels until December 20, 2024. Congress did not include disaster relief money in the latest spending bill, which is particularly poignant given the loss of life and incredible damage caused by #HurricaneHelene. – The House and Senate passed a number of ocean-related bills before they left town last week. – #BOEM announced it will delay the #offshorewind energy auction planned for potential lease areas offshore Oregon, citing insufficient bidder interest. Oregon Governor Tina Kotek recently submitted a letter to BOEM expressing concerns over the agency’s accelerated process and advocating for increased Tribal partnership in offshore wind development. – EPA announced the finalization of national discharge standards to control #pollutants and #invasivespecies from vessels operating in U.S. waters. – The Ocean Research Advisory Panel transmitted its first report to the White House Ocean Policy Committee calling for a U.S. National Ocean #Data Strategy. – In its largest investment in marine energy to date, DOE announced up to $112.5 million focused on wave energy. #marinetechnology Read more:
