SB 954, the Youth Health Equity + Safety (YHES) Act, is on the Governor's desk for signing! This bill will make free condoms available in public high schools to combat the STI epidemic among youth, which disproportionately impacts LGBTQIA+ and youth of color. We must prioritize youth health and safety. With $5 million secured for funding, we call on The Office of California Governor Gavin Newsom to sign #SB954! Send a letter directly to Governor Newsom, calling on him to sign SB 954 into law! Link below: https://lnkd.in/esPShJCS

📣 Good news CA youth and youth-serving allies! 📣 We’re excited to announce the launch of TeenSource Action – an online platform that empowers California youth to drive systemic change to expand access to sexual + reproductive health. As their first action, teens are calling on the Office of California Governor Gavin Newsom to sign #SB954, the Youth Health Equity + Safety (YHES) Act. This critical legislation addresses the STI epidemic among California youth by making free condoms available in public high schools and protecting comprehensive sex education. In addition to advocacy opportunities, TeenSource Action offers features that allow youth to check their voter registration status, review ballot measures, and learn about their rights to access sexual and reproductive health services. TeenSource Action will continue to evolve based on input directly from youth, ensuring young people are driving the change to meet the needs of their community. You can take action now to expand access to sexual and reproductive health - make your voice heard by calling on Governor Newsom to sign SB 954. We are proud to have co-authored a groundbreaking study with RTI International on equitable access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care that has the potential to drive real change to reduce health disparities and foster equity. The study, funded by the HHS Office of Population Affairs (OPA), introduces a new risk score, the Local Social Inequity in Sexual and Reproductive Health (LSI-SRH) score, which looks at how social determinants of health like poverty and wealth inequality, food insecurity, housing, and healthcare access affect the community-level risk of poor sexual and reproductive health outcomes. The LSI-SRH score is a community-level measure where "community" is defined as the census tract. After analyzing social determinants across 72,999 communities (i.e., census tracts) in the 50 states and District of Columbia, the researchers found that the LSI-SRH score accounts for a substantial amount (81%) of inequitable differences in sexual and reproductive health outcomes. The LSI-SRH score can be used to: • target interventions • influence resource distribution • inform policy development Together, we're making strides towards reducing SRH inequities. #SRH #HealthEquity #PublicHealth Read the full study here: https://lnkd.in/eUTy436Z
