This is probably one of the most confused area of filmmaking, especially in the world of independent film. "Producer" titles get passed around seemingly willy-nilly. Writers and other aspiring filmmakers see "Producer" in someone's job title and go running to pitch their script or look for funding. But there actually are specific TYPES of Producers, and only a few of them write you checks. Most of them (all of them, at one point or another), you actually have to write them a check. We put together this infographic in an effort to help clarify some of the seemingly prominent confusion. Our stance on independent film is and continues to be that ignorance, not malice or simple incompetence, is at the heart of the vast majority of the downfalls of working in independent film (or working anywhere in film at this point). Today is #WorldSuicidePreventionDay. I thought twice about sharing this image of us "broken parents" on the 2nd worst day in our lives, as it might be hard for some to see. However, I want people to know that there are other options to suicide; there is help out there. I don't know why Jools (forever 14) isn't here, but if there was a chance that he felt this was his only option, boy, how wrong he was! The destruction his death has caused and the ripple effect is massive: family, friends, teachers, and friends' families. Please, please, if you are struggling, look for help, and if I can help you in ANY WAY at all, please ask me. Let's change these horrendous statistics and make people realise there is hope; they just might not be able to see a way forward at the moment. I don't want anyone else to be standing looking at their child's coffin, thinking, "What else could we have done?".
