One of Etsy’s Guiding Principles is to Minimize Waste. 🌱 We work to live this ideal across every aspect of our business – including in managing the infrastructure that supports Etsy’s day-to-day operations. That’s why, since migrating to the cloud in 2020, we’ve established a team dedicated to maximizing the value of Etsy’s cloud usage, and raising the flag when there are improvements we can make. Check out a recent post on Code as Craft, Etsy’s engineering blog, on how our FinOps team forecasts, monitors and optimizes Etsy’s Cloud usage, including how Etsy engineers leveraged Machine Learning to minimize waste in model deployment. ☁️ Read more here: etsy.me/cloud-usage

At Etsy, code isn’t just what makes our platform work. It’s a means for connection, collaboration and learning. Etsy engineers in Mexico City invited fellow programmers and coding enthusiasts to Etsy’s CDMX office for an evening of thoughtful discussion and knowledge sharing on the Scala programming language and functional programming techniques. Scala and functional programming enable Etsy to deploy cutting edge machine learning technology that helps surface our sellers’ amazing items to buyers looking for something special. The event was part of a monthly series of meet-ups to bring together Mexico City’s programming community around interesting tech topics. We love to see our teams come together to develop new skills and connect with the community!

“It’s fast, it’s taxing, it’s frustrating, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done, and I love it.” - Chad Davis, glassblower and owner of Etsy shop Catskill Glassworks. 🔥 At Etsy, we’re proud to celebrate our incredible sellers. We know their passion and creativity is what makes Etsy special. That’s why sellers like Chad are the stars of our latest ad campaign, and here on LinkedIn, we’re highlighting the people behind the billboards. We asked Chad about his creative journey, here’s what he had to say: 🔸 Why is working with glass special? “Capturing a moment with my hands that can only be achieved through collaboration with the material, responding to the needs of the medium in that moment.” 🔸What does Keeping Commerce Human mean to you? “To me, Keeping Commerce Human means making products that can only be made by hand and being able to directly communicate with every one of my customers.” 🔸What sets your items apart from something mass-produced? “The subtle differences between each piece. Because I don’t use molds, each piece has a unique shape, color and size.” Learn more about Chad’s passion for his hand-blown glass art: https://etsy.me/3BjnmvP

Etsy is committed to advancing positive change, in our marketplace and in our communities.  🌟 Every year at Etsy, employees come together for “Summer of Service:” a series of volunteer events focused on connecting with and supporting our communities. Etsyians across the globe gave back to their communities by: 🌱 Tending to the garden beds at Crown Heights park in New York City by removing invasive plants, spreading mulch, and painting the park fixtures.  💌 Helping pack meals for those in need at locations across the country like; Washington D.C, Seattle, New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago and Denver!  🤝 Helping plant 100+ trees to areas impacted by forest fires with Bosque Urbano in Guadalajara, Mexico 🧡 Meeting virtually to craft cards for LGTBTQ+ elders with the organization, Letters to SAGE. Thanks to everyone who helped make this Summer of Service a success!

Etsy is proud to leverage our voice to help ensure that small, creative entrepreneurs have a seat at the table with the policymakers who represent them. Etsy CEO Josh Silverman and CLO Colin Stretch hosted a meet-and-greet between some of our sellers and New York State elected officials at Etsy’s Brooklyn HQ to talk about ways to support small business in New York, including the importance of affordable and accessible childcare for entrepreneurs. Huge thanks to State Senators Andrew Gounardes, Jessica Scarcella Spanton, and Iwen Chu, Assemblymember Grace Lee and their staff, and team members from the offices of Assemblymembers Brian Cunningham and Jo Anne Simon, plus Brooklyn-based sellers Zeynep & Erdem and Rachel for joining us in this conversation.

In Etsy’s latest ad campaign – and here on LinkedIn – we’re celebrating and spotlighting our incredible sellers. That includes designer and vintage expert Halima Garrett, owner of Etsy shop Threads of Habit, who sources local vintage pieces and fabrics and upcycles them into gorgeous modern apparel. A few fun facts about her: 🧵Halima started her shop as an outlet for her thrifting hobby, before growing it into a design business ♻️She’s passionate about vintage fabric because it’s high quality and more sustainable – and the prints are one of a kind! 💖Her grandmother owned a thrift store in Brooklyn, igniting Halima’s own interest in vintage clothing “Everything comes from my vision, from sourcing the fabrics to sewing, designing, styling – it’s really a creative process that I enjoy,” Halima shared. “Whether they are vintage or upcycled, these are one of a kind pieces, and I hope that translates to my customer.” Click the link to learn more about Halima’s journey to become an entrepreneur on Etsy: etsy.me/4eeDfSA
