Athlete Ambassador, Nea Mattila, is the 23-year-old 2021 Finnish JR 400m hurdles champion, and current Engineering postgraduate. Nea has been our Athlete Ambassador since 2021 and has inspired us all through her time as Ambassador. We caught up with Nea to ask about how her latest athletic season went and what's next as she shifts her focus towards her studies: "The 2024 athletic season was an odd one. The season started early in May and came to an end a week into September, almost a month longer than the typical season. Contradictorily, nationals were much earlier than usual.  While I felt I was in many ways in the top shape of my career, I struggled with my performances the whole season. And as some of you may have noticed, I still couldn’t run the hurdles: a sad consequence of a persistent little problem. A couple of years ago, I had promised myself to keep competing at least until the end of the 2024 season, to see where I could get. Unfortunately, this season did not give enough promise to continue so I felt it’s time to place my efforts elsewhere.  Regardless, I found joy and peace in competing this last season. The relay nationals even provided a perfect ending to a memorable career, with the renewal of last year’s 4x100m championship and a bronze medal in the 4x400m relays. After the final race, I was embraced by my track friends and celebrated for the end of my athletic career, a moment I will remember for the rest of my life.  Now, I look forward to all the new experiences that spontaneity can offer, be it traveling, days spent at the campus or casual sports with friends." We had the privilege of participating in the "Työelämäluento" (working life lecture) as part of Tampere's city-wide Työelämäviikko (working life week). This event, hosted by the historic Tampereen klassillinen lukio (Clasu), brought together professionals to share insights with upper secondary school students. Alongside another industry expert, we discussed key aspects of the recruitment process, including crafting impactful cover letters, writing CVs, succeeding in interviews, and navigating today's job market. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our values and provide practical advice to the students as they prepare for their future careers.
