The inclusion of students with special needs is a key priority in building inclusive education systems. Our recent study visit to Solingen, Germany, brought together teachers, school leaders, and trade union representatives to discuss best practices and ongoing challenges, such as a shortage of special needs teachers and inadequate resources. This initiative, co-funded by the European Commission, seeks to foster social dialogue and create meaningful change. As we conclude the third school year impacted by the war in Ukraine, significant challenges continue to hinder the inclusion of displaced children from Ukraine into education systems across 23 EU Member States. Despite various efforts by European governments, issues such as language barriers, well-being concerns, and teacher shortages persist. The newly released report by the European Commission, ‘The inclusion of displaced children from Ukraine in EU education systems,’ sheds light on these ongoing challenges and underscores the need for comprehensive support for students, families, and teachers. ETUCE highlights the importance of involving education trade unions and Ukrainian families in these discussions, noting the gaps between policy and implementation due to funding deficits and other barriers. For more detailed insights and to read what ETUCE has to say, visit our website: https://t.ly/HFH08 Together, let's continue our efforts to support all children and uphold their right to education. #MakeTeachingAttractive #SupportTeachers #EducationForAll #Inclusion #Education #ETUCE

Last week, ETUCE-CSEE had the pleasure of partnering with European Federation of Education Employers (EFEE) for our first case study visit (CSV) 'APRES COVID' in beautiful Ljubljana, Slovenia! Over two days, we visited Osnovna šola Dravlje and Biotehniški izobraževalni center Ljubljana. We explored the Slovenian primary and secondary education system, gaining invaluable insights from school leaders, teachers, and counselors about the long-term impact of COVID on well-being and mental health in education. Our discussions highlighted the challenges faced, creative solutions implemented, and potential improvements to ensure a sustainable recovery from the pandemic. A significant part of our visit focused on Social Dialogue in both European and Slovenian contexts. We had insightful discussions on health and safety in education, incorporating perspectives from the Ministry of Education, school leaders, and trade unions to ensure the well-being and safety of our teachers and students. This visit was an invaluable opportunity to assess the long-term impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on well-being and psychosocial risks in education, and to enhance social partners' cooperation in this field. Excitingly, we were also filming this case study and will be releasing a short movie about it soon. Stay tuned for more updates! A heartfelt thank you to all participants, especially our amazing partners at EFEE and our Slovenian hosts! Your support, organization, and hospitality made this visit incredibly enriching and successful. This Earth Day, we reaffirm our commitment to integrating Environmental Sustainability in Education. As we celebrate the outcomes of the collaborative EFEE-ETUCE project, we recognize the pivotal role of social dialogue in promoting green skills and competences in European education systems. Our recent project, "European Social Partners in Education Promoting Environmental Sustainability in School Learning, Teaching and Management," has unveiled crucial insights. Despite the significance, social dialogue on Education for Environmental Sustainability (EES) often lacks priority in national discussions and is underrepresented in collective bargaining. The project's culmination led to the development of Joint Recommendations that provide a strategic roadmap for social partners to foster environmental sustainability in school management, teaching, and learning. These recommendations highlight the importance of a long-term vision, sustainable funding for EES, and robust partnerships between educators, school leaders, students, and the wider community. As we observe Earth Day, let's commit to these actionable steps to ensure our teachers and school leaders are well-equipped to lead the charge in fostering environmental stewardship among our youth. The future of our planet depends on our actions today. https://t.ly/E-x4l #EarthDay2024 #SustainableEducation #SocialDialogue #ETUCE #GreenSkills #EducationLeaders
