Also this week, the KMI registered the hottest 12 august in Belgium éver 🥴. Time to put climate back on the agenda! In a shared message signed by 250 scientists, celebreties and citizen movements, the Belgian #climatemovement calls for an ambitious climate chapter in the government negotiations. Three years ago, devestating floods made countles victims in Wallonia (BE). People lost their home, their dreams, even their lives in the water. Belgium was stunned. "Could this really happen, right here under our noses?" Today on July 15, we commemorate the victims of the global climate crisis. Because this crisis crushes dreams everywhere, and it has been doing so for some time now. Welcome to join us this afternoon during the special ceremony in Brussels, to honor climate change victims world wide. Onlangs stond Shirtjesdag op de Zuidas en vroeg voorbijgangers naar tips om jezelf duurzaam koel te houden. After last weekend’s election, it is fair to say that there has been a major shift in European political forces, which will naturally impact how the priorities of the EU are set for the coming years 🗳🇪🇺 Yet, the climate and biodiversity crises are not easing, and many worry that environmental issues will fall out of focus in the future legislative agenda 🌳❌ To get an idea of what to expect, we invited experts from diverse backgrounds to answer our questions on the future of the #EuropeanGreenDeal: - Sebastian Oberthür [Co-Director of the Research Centre for Environment, Economy and Energy; Professor for Environment and Sustainable Development at the Brussels School of Governance (BSoG)] for his expert knowledge of European and international governance, laws and policies on environmental and climate matters ⚖️ - Arvea Marieni [Partner & Board Member at Brainscapital; Shareholder & Lead of Ecological Transition Division at BEAM CUBE] for her experience serving as a European Commission expert on innovation and ecological transition matters 💡 - Flora Dicke [Researcher at the Ecologic Institute in Berlin] for her expertise on German and EU climate mitigation and adaption policy.
