Throwback to an unforgettable research internship at the University of Rennes! 🌍✨ Last March, Hans Reimann, a Master 2 student specialising in Mathematics for Data Assimilation at the University of Potsdam, had the great opportunity to embark on a research internship in France at the mathematics research institute (IRMAR) of the Université de Rennes I. 🇫🇷📚 Thanks to the European Digital UniverCity - EDUC Alliance, students and teachers of the mathematics department can collaborate on fascinating topics. 💡🔍 ➕ Research Highlights: - Worked on the intersection of Bayesian Statistics, Change Point Detection, and Geometrical Data Structure 📊🔗 - Collaborated with brilliant researchers like Clément Levrard and attended lectures by field leaders such as Gabriel Peyré 🎓📖 - Gained hands-on experience with methods in Topological Data Analysis 🧩 - Met with PhD students who inspired Hans to pursue the research path. 🎓✨ 🇫🇷 Cultural Highlights: - Explored the beautiful city of #Rennes with highlights such as the Marché des Lices, the magnificent old town, and its stunning parks and churches 🏰🌳⛪ - Tasted amazing local cuisine like galettes 🍽️😋 - Met great people from all around the world 🌍🤝 - This 1-month experience was more than just a chance to enhance his research skills: it was also a deep dive into a new culture and a new academic community! 🌐🎓 This internship has shaped Hans’ perspective on research and global collaboration. A nice reminder that science knows no borders, and the best ideas come from diverse minds working together. 🤝🏻🌍💡 We look forward to seeing how Hans will use the benefits of this experience in his future endeavours! We toured the Riu Sec campus, learned about Erasmus+, had a quick Spanish lesson, and explored Castelló. 🎯🏆 Our goal? 🕵️ Fun fact: the average person in Italy drinks almost 2 coffees a day, creating about 7-8 grams of coffee waste per cup. That’s a lot of grounds! 🌱♻️ At our Summer School on Circular Economy, we challenged our students to tackle the coffee waste problem on campus. A huge shoutout to our brilliant students for their ingenuity. We’re excited to brew up some of their ideas and make our campus more sustainable.
