First ELECTRIC Air Taxi flight in Japan! Toyota Motor Corporation and Joby Aviation, Inc. reached a significant milestone in their partnership with the completion of Joby’s first international exhibition flight this week. This event took place at Toyota’s Higashi-Fuji Technical Center in Shizuoka, Japan, marking an important step towards the commercialization of electric air taxis. EVinfo.net typically talks about land-based electric vehicles, however that is just the tip of the electric iceberg. Electric aircraft is a fast-growing business as well. See EVinfo.net's article: https://lnkd.in/g6YaJdHU Throughout their collaboration, Toyota has shared valuable insights from its extensive automotive manufacturing and technology expertise, helping to refine Joby’s aircraft design and production processes. Notably, Toyota engineers now work alongside Joby’s team in California. Together, Toyota and Joby are strategically positioned in the growing sector of urban air mobility, aiming to create an integrated transportation ecosystem that combines ground and air solutions. This flight showcases Joby Aviation’s electric air taxi technology outside of the United States, highlighting the potential for international applications of their aircraft. This successful flight marks a step closer to Joby’s goal of launching commercial air taxi services. Joby Aviation is focused on creating all-electric air taxis that are designed to provide efficient, quiet, and environmentally friendly electric transportation. Their aircraft aims to reduce congestion by providing on-demand air travel. Joby’s electric air taxi is designed to transport a pilot and four passengers at speeds of up to 200 mph, providing high-speed mobility with zero operating emissions and significantly less noise compared to helicopters. Toyota has announced investing additional $500M in Joby. Toyota’s total financial backing for Joby will reach $894M, including establishing a manufacturing alliance to facilitate the initial phase of commercialization. Toyota has faced criticism from EV advocates for its slow movement so far into battery electric vehicles (BEVs), favoring hybrids. Many EV experts believe it's too late for Toyota. EVinfo.net disagrees. In America, Toyota has a huge and loyal customer base. Mass EV adoption is close to happening, and when it starts, this will kick off great opportunity for Toyota and others to sell EVs. Having an early advantage helps OEMs with the EV transition, such as General Motors and Hyundai Motor America's strong EVs, which gain US market share every quarter. But there's still room for the laggards to succeed. Is WIRELESS EV Charging (WEVC) better than the plug? WEVC offers many benefits, including safety, efficiency, and opportunity charging. It is better for autonomous vehicles (AV), which have gained significantly in usage. Waymo, the undisputed robotaxi leader, is valued at $45B, after getting $5B in capital recently. Waymo is averaging 100,000 paid trips a week, a 10x jump from last year. See EVinfo.net's article: https://lnkd.in/g3rMs2d2 Key benefits of wireless charging include greater convenience—eliminating the need for physically connecting and disconnecting cables—enhanced safety by reducing trip hazards, less wear and tear on charging ports, and the potential for seamless integration into everyday routines, making charging an almost invisible process. Traditional wired charging requires drivers to locate and connect a cable to their vehicle, which can be cumbersome. With wireless EV charging, however, these issues are eliminated. The technology operates through inductive charging, where energy is transferred from a ground-based charging pad to a receiver pad on the bottom of the vehicle. For drivers, this means all they need to do is park over the charging pad, and the process starts automatically. Conforming to ICNIRP (International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection) guidelines, these systems are developed with stringent safety standards in mind, ensuring safe electromagnetic exposure levels. Wireless systems now achieve power transfer efficiencies on par with traditional plugged charging, both reaching around 90%. Consider a bus on its route, stopping for five minutes to pick up and drop off passengers; during this short period—when plug-in charging is impractical—the bus could gain 10-15 miles of range through wireless EV charging, known as "opportunity charging." The global leader of WEVC is WAVE Charging, a pioneer in wireless EV charging technology. Benjamin Auslander, WAVE’s VP of Business Development & Marketing, shared an example demonstrating the benefits of this technology. WAVE announced a significant milestone in its partnership with Venture Logistics and Cummins Inc., supported by the U.S. Department of Energy. WAVE’s 500kW wireless inductive charger powered two Class 8 electric trucks at a logistics facility, enabling efficient cargo transport with minimal downtime for charging. WAVE Charging offers a cutting-edge wireless charging system designed to enable commercial operators to extend the range of medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicles, with smart depot charging and new Energy Cloud charging management software. WAVE Charging is highly recommended by EVinfo.net. Delaware invests $21.5M in EV Chargers for major highways! The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) is advancing a $21.5 million initiative to install up to 10 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations along major highways throughout the state. With around 4.5 percent of Delaware’s vehicles now being electric, demand for accessible charging infrastructure has been growing, motivating state officials to enhance EV support and accessibility. See EVinfo.net's article: https://lnkd.in/ghtJmrDT The $21.5 million initiative is funded primarily by $17.5 million in federal grants, with an additional $4 million provided by the state. In partnership with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), DelDOT views the charging stations as essential to advancing Delaware’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and supporting cleaner energy options. Stephanie Johnson, a DelDOT official, spoke about the historic project. Delaware officials plan to expand EV charging infrastructure statewide as part of a $21.5 million initiative. Not everyone supports the move, however. State Rep. Lyndon Yearick (R) has raised questions about the investment, saying, "...to have the government make that investment, I think it’s hypocritical since they’ve never done it for gas stations.” It’s unclear if Yearick is speaking about the gas station owners receiving federal support, or if the oil companies that feed them, have received federal support. If Yearick means the oil and gas companies have not received federal support, he’s dead wrong. In the past, the US federal government has contributed tens of billions of dollars of federal tax subsidies for oil and gas companies. The The White House's Fiscal Year 2025 Budget saves $35 billion by eliminating special tax treatment for oil and gas company investments, as well as other fossil fuel tax preferences. Delaware’s Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Rebate Program provides rebates for Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations purchased and installed after May 1, 2023. In April, Gridwealth, a renewable energy developer and electricity supplier, announced that its EV division, Gridwealth EV, has received a National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) grant from the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT). The new EV charging station will be developed in partnership with Champlain Energy Systems, an authorized representative of EnerSys. Todd Ford, chief strategy officer of Gridwealth, spoke about the important project. This year, Delaware was awarded nearly $18 million in NEVI federal funding. Heroic efforts to fix EV charging reliability! Federal grants and innovative startup WattsUp are tackling an important problem, EV charging reliability. A EVC-RAA electric vehicle (EV) charging project “re-groundbreaking” in Washington, D.C. was announced. See EVinfo.net’s article [SPONSORED]: https://lnkd.in/gvuWVSwE In 2024, reliability issues with electric vehicle (EV) charging stations continue to pose a significant challenge to EV adoption in America. A study from Harvard Business School highlighted that U.S. EV charging stations have an average reliability score of 78%. A ChargerHelp analysis found that uptime is 73.7%. A Plug In America survey showed that 68% of U.S. EV drivers had encountered broken or nonfunctional chargers within the last year. Round 1A of the Electric Vehicles Charger Reliability and Accessibility Accelerator (EVC-RAA) funding was announced on October 24, 2024, in Washington, D.C. The “re-groundbreaking” is shown in the attached photo. Gabe Klein, executive director of the Joint Office, spoke about the historic project. On October 26, 2024, The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) awarded $300,000 to projects from Electrify America and Leg Up Farmers Market, upgrading chargers in Willow Grove, introducing new Gen 4 DC Fast Charge units. Recognizing the need for better EV charging reliability, the EVC-RAA was created by the federal government as a part of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program, with a 97% uptime requirement. Innovative company WattsUp was founded to tackle the important EV charging reliability problem. At the heart of WattsUp's services is their powerful AI technology. WattsUp's real-time monitoring system continually observes EV chargers, delivering instant insights and alerts for any anomalies or performance issues. By analyzing data from their monitoring and predictive maintenance tools, WattsUp autonomously schedules repairs and dispatches technicians at the most convenient times. WattsUp up then empowers the technician with the data and prescriptive diagnostics needed to ensure on-site success and high first-time-fix rates. This minimizes disruptions to operations, allowing charge site operators to focus on their core activities while knowing that maintenance is seamlessly managed without requiring their intervention. Recently, WattsUp announced its membership in the National Charging Experience Consortium (ChargeX Consortium), funded by the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation. WattsUp meets frequently with Idaho National Laboratory's John Smart, Director of the ChargeX Consortium. EVinfo.net, also a proud member of ChargeX, highly recommends WattsUp. Beware of EV MISINFORMATION, disinformation and FAKE NEWS. This video of an eBike fire, and many others like it, have been making the rounds on social media. A dubious post we found using this video on LinkedIn yesterday fooled a large number of LinkedIn users. See EVinfo.net's article: https://lnkd.in/gBJ443GD Fake news, misinformation and disinformation is at an all-time high in 2024. So, how does one find the truth among all the noise? You can count on EVinfo.net as trustworthy, as our sources are all well-respected and widely recognized as legitimate, for example, the EPA is one source we cite for information. Electric Vehicle (EV) fake news, misinformation and disinformation is at an all time high, along with fake news, misinformation and disinformation on every issue or topic that exists today. The global EV revolution is being attacked by a variety of actors, mostly those invested in the oil and gas industries. To find the truth, follow the money. Many leaders don’t want people to buy or lease EVs, but rather keep the status quo of gas-powered internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. The problem with this is that ICE vehicles worldwide are releasing greenhouse gases, contributing to climate change, the biggest threat the globe has ever faced. Lithium fires in electric vehicles, including eBikes, has been a source of significant fake news, misinformation and disinformation worldwide. Videos of these fires are especially compelling, as they invoke a fear response. In the United States, lithium battery fires in eBikes have been an issue because of a lack of regulation, and the fact that firefighters have not been adequately prepared to fight lithium fires, which require different methods than traditional fires. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) hosted a public meeting in 2023 with a focus on fires occurring in micro-mobility products. See the video in our article. The “Setting Consumer Standards for Lithium-Ion Batteries Act” (HR 1797), and a Senate bill, S.1008, is currently under consideration. These laws could create a uniform standard for lithium-ion battery safety across the U.S if they are passed. Experts recommend when purchasing or using an eBike, insist on UL certification for safety. UL Solutions is a global independent safety science company. Using Full Circle Lithium Corp's FCL-X Pro agent, two controlled EVs fires were fully extinguished in minutes with no re-ignition. So lithium fires now have an effective solution. The EPA strongly supports EVs, as they are widely proven to be the most eco-friendly form of transportation, and an important part of fighting climate change. The EPA debunked seven of the most common EV myths in our article.
