NYC received a  $15 million federal grant aimed at creating 600 curbside chargers. In New York City, where most residents live in multifamily buildings and lack personal driveways, the traditional model of home charging for electric vehicles (EVs) isn’t feasible for many. This creates a heightened need for public charging stations to support the city's growing EV population. However, finding suitable locations for dedicated charging hubs in such a densely packed urban environment is challenging due to space constraints. Public charging solutions like curbside chargers or retrofitting existing infrastructure, such as lampposts, become crucial in these circumstances. See EVinfo.net's article: https://lnkd.in/dwHDiXX5 New York City’s initial rollout of curbside EV chargers, a pilot program funded by Con Edison and installed by Flo Charging, has exceeded expectations. Since launching in 2021, the city has installed 100 chargers next to parking spaces reserved for electric vehicles. These chargers are in high demand, with usage rates topping 70% of the time. The rollout involved underground construction and power line connections, which cost $13.4 million for 60 chargers over six years. Exploring more affordable and less labor-intensive methods will be critical. Connecting chargers directly to buildings is a model used by the company Itselectric. This method taps into the electricity already flowing to buildings, which eliminates the need for expensive and time-consuming digging and underground wiring. Tiya Gordon, co-founder of itselectric, spoke about the company's innovative offerings. Voltpost is a lamppost electric vehicle charging platform. Voltpost upgrades the electrical capacity of existing streetlights from 150 to 240 volts, which can be accomplished by adding a single wire to the lamppost. According to Jeff Prosserman, founder of Voltpost, the company can retrofit a lamppost in just one to two hours. Though Itselectric and Voltpost are not yet formally involved in New York City’s EV charging expansion, both companies plan to apply to the Department of Transportation (DOT) once the city issues a request for proposals. Expanding the curbside charging network, in combination with other efforts, is key to making EV ownership viable for a larger portion of New Yorkers, supporting the city’s larger decarbonization efforts. EVinfo.net congratulates itselectric, voltpost and FLO EV Charging for thier innovative work in curbside EV charging, a crucial piece of the EV charging landscape. I was GREATLY honored to join the ChargeX Consortium earlier this year, and welcome EVSTAR as a new client in August. Why? because both are doing FANTASTIC WORK in solving the EV charging reliability problem. In the new Customer-Focused Key Performance Indicators for Electric Vehicle Charging report released this week, the National Charging Experience Consortium, or ChargeX Consortium, defined two sets of recommended key performance indicators that will help measure the charging experience. See EVinfo.net's article: https://lnkd.in/gfnuxtms The broad implementation of those key performance indicators provides industry with the basis for common performance targets for EV charging. Currently, the industry lacks common standards to measure the charging experience and existing metrics focus mostly on business operation. The ChargeX recommendations are specifically geared toward public charging stations, where EV drivers sometimes encounter problems such as out-of-service chargers, trouble starting charging sessions and slow charging speeds. ChargeX members Casey Quinn, Senior Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Reliability Engineer at Idaho National Laboratory, Jeffrey Samalot, Product Manager for Public Networks at Electrify America, and Justin Wilson, Senior Director for Regulatory Policy and Programs at ChargePoint, spoke about the groundbreaking ChargeX report. Low reliability is frustrating for existing EV owners, and is discouraging internal combustion engine (ICE) drivers from adopting EVs. In the fourth quarter of 2023, public EV charging stations experienced an 18% failure rate for charging attempts, according to the latest J.D. Power surveys on charging satisfaction. EVSTAR is solving the reliability problem. EVinfo.net interviewed Andrew Hoehner, EVSTAR CEO. With EVSTAR's extended warranty, customers may avoid out-of-pocket expenses for eligible claims, even in cases where the charging station needs a full replacement, repairs, de-installation, or re-installation within the 5-year warranty term. EVSTAR recently partnered with Blink Charging Co, one of the industry's top leaders. Mike Battaglia, Chief Operating Officer at Blink, spoke about the groundbreaking partnership. EVinfo.net is also GREATLY HONORED to be working with the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation, and its Executive Director Gabe Klein. The Joint Office reported this week a Q3 2024 NEVI quarterly update. There are now nearly 192,000 publicly available charging ports in the U.S., marking an increase of about 9,000 ports in the last three months, and an important milestone—we have doubled our national charging network since the start of the Biden-Harris Administration! THANK You Electrek.co for clarifying the EV sales growth slowdown. EV sales ARE NOT cooling, slowing, or in a slump. EV sales continue to grow, only grow at a slower pace. The problem is a steep decline in truthful reporting, to push an anti-EV agenda. This problem has extended to all news reported in America to push other agendas. Shame, shame on you anti-EV reporters for bending the truth and misleading readers. See the article on Electrek.co: https://lnkd.in/gzsycjEc As the electric vehicle (EV) market matures, the growth rates will naturally decelerate, particularly after the explosive increases seen in recent years. It's a basic principle of market dynamics: once a category begins from a small base, high percentage growth is easier to achieve. However, as the market expands and the base becomes larger, maintaining those same percentage growth rates becomes increasingly difficult, if not impossible. Doubling market share, particularly in the early stages of adoption, often reflects factors such as technological breakthroughs, government incentives, infrastructure improvements, and consumer awareness. The 2020-2021 doubling was indeed anomalous due to unique circumstances like COVID-19 disrupting traditional auto production while spurring interest in EVs. As EVs accounted for about 18% of the global market in 2023, projecting the same doubling trajectory would result in unrealistic scenarios, such as EVs making up over 100% of the market within a few years. Tesla's dominance in the EV market has been a significant driver of the industry's rapid growth over the past decade. However, as the global EV market has matured, a growing number of automakers have entered the space, offering more diverse and competitive electric models. This increased competition has naturally had an impact on Tesla’s declining sales growth. The narrative of customers "shifting from EVs to hybrids" isn't accurate. The increase in gas-hybrid sales hasn't come at the expense of battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales, but rather at the expense of gas-only vehicles. Despite the rise in gas-hybrid sales, BEV sales have continued to grow. Plug-in hybrids remain a niche but growing category. This shift indicates that some consumers aren't yet ready to transition to fully electric vehicles. Anti-EV reporting uses words like “cool” “fall” “slow” and “slump.” But none of these accurately describe sales that are still rising. Sales of gas-only vehicles have been on a steady decline since their peak in 2017, reflecting the transition of the automotive industry toward electrification. What's your opinion? Comment here with anti-EV reporting links and EVinfo.net will gladly debunk them for you. EVinfo.net offers EV influencer marketing services to the EV industry. Let's talk! Today, Beam Global announced the official launch of the patented BeamSpot sustainable curbside electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure system. The streetlight replacement combines solar, wind and utility-generated electricity into Beam Global’s proprietary integrated batteries to provide resiliency, lighting and curbside EV charging. See EVinfo.net's article: https://lnkd.in/gxsN4ffU BeamSpot products are intended for public use in areas where EV charging is needed most but traditional installation methods are most challenging, including on street parking environments, communities with multi-unit housing and public access complexes such as shopping centers, airports, event centers, stadiums and amusement parks. Desmond Wheatley, CEO of Beam Global, spoke about the impressive new innovation. Using existing streetlight foundations and circuits to power EV charging stations is an innovative approach to expanding EV charging infrastructure but streetlights generally only have sufficient power to energize light bulbs – much less than is needed to provide meaningful charges to electric vehicles. BeamSpot replaces existing streetlights with a product that combines multiple sources of renewable energy and onboard battery storage, providing a meaningful EV charging experience without requiring new or upgraded utility-grid circuits or other traditional curbside charging infrastructure requirements like trenching, construction, easements, leasing or complex permitting. BeamSpot can reduce the time, cost and complexity of expanding EV charging infrastructure while lowering utility costs, increasing resiliency and balancing the grid. EVinfo.net congratulates Beam Global on this great new innovation. Solar, wind and EV charging go together hand-in-hand, to make the cleanest possible transportation solution for the greatest impact in protecting the environment. A stunning 89% of survey respondents said it is likely or very likely that their next car will be an EV. EVs hold many benefits for drivers, including a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) over the long run, cleaner, quieter operation, greater convenience for homeowners, and of course the all-important environmental benefits as the world grapples with climate change. See EVinfo.net's article: https://lnkd.in/gWDxhmPY According to Plug In America’s 2024 EV Driver Survey, electric vehicle (EV) drivers continue to express high satisfaction with their vehicles. The survey found that 89% of respondents stated they are likely or very likely to choose an EV for their next car, maintaining consistent enthusiasm seen in previous years’ surveys. This demonstrates a strong and ongoing commitment from current EV owners to stick with electric vehicles for future purchases, reflecting the growing confidence in EV performance, technology, and environmental benefits. Plug In America, in collaboration with EPRI’s EVs2Scale2030 initiative, released its fourth annual EV driver survey. Building on data collected over the past three years, this survey leverages Plug In America’s extensive network of electric vehicle (EV) drivers, solidifying its reputation as a trusted source for both early and new EV adopters. The 2024 survey gathered responses from over 4,200 participants, with more than 3,300 being current EV drivers. Conducted between January and March 2024, the survey aims to provide a comprehensive view of the EV experience in the United States. Clean air and environmental protection remain the top priority for approximately 40% of EV drivers, a figure that has held steady since the survey began. Plug In America emerged as a voice for EV advocacy in 2005. The founders originated from the 1990s grassroots campaign to save EVs like GM’s first mass-produced EV, the EV1, from being destroyed. This survey shuts down another dubious recent survey which said EV drivers are going back to gas. A quick look by EVinfo.net into the source of the study revealed decades-long support for the fossil fuel industry. Happy World EV day! World EV Day was founded by Ade Thomas, and his sustainability media company, GreenTV, in partnership with ABB. The first World EV Day was celebrated on September 9, 2020, and it was created to raise awareness and promote the shift to electric vehicles worldwide. Electric trucks are superior to their polluting, gas-powered equivalents in nearly every possible way. Faster, with greater torque, more efficient, a lower total cost of ownership, fun to drive and more eco-friendly are the many benefits electric trucks offer. A lower price is the only way gas-powered trucks currently beat electric. But that is changing too. One of America’s ongoing automotive problems is its love for big, heavy trucks and SUVs. An innovative new EV maker, TELO, is seeking to break America’s addiction to big trucks. See EVinfo.net's article: https://lnkd.in/gr7tHTEZ TELO Trucks has introduced a revolutionary concept with the TELO MT1, the world’s most efficient EV pickup designed specifically for urban living and weekend adventuring. The TELO MT1 is remarkable in how it maximizes space and functionality within a compact footprint. Despite being as short as a MINI Cooper SE, it offers the same interior space as a Toyota Tacoma. The TELO MT1 also boasts a 60-inch truck bed—the same length as the Tacoma’s, and even larger than that of the Rivian R1T. With a 0-60 mph acceleration time of just 4 seconds, the TELO MT1 rivals many performance EVs while maintaining its utility. The truck offers a 350-mile range on a single charge, and packs 500 horsepower. TELO's leadership hopes America will go for smaller trucks, when moving from gas to electric. Jason Marks, Founder and CEO, Forrest North, Founder and CTO, and Yves Béhar, Founder and Chief Creative Officer (CCO) are well-respected innovators in the EV space. “Small is the new big, even in pickup trucks. I love backing founders like Jason and Forrest who have the vision to turn a massive industry on its head,” said Neo CEO, Ali Partovi. Neo is a San Francisco Bay area mentorship community and communal venture capital fund. The most evident example in the EV industry of America's love for big trucks is the GMC Hummer EV truck. Its weight—over 9,000 pounds—makes it not only the heaviest EV currently on sale but also potentially the heaviest passenger vehicle overall. Ford's best-selling F-150 Lightning electric truck has many amazing capabilities. However, many drivers don't need that large of a truck, and are looking for smaller and less expensive choices. This is where the TELO MT1 comes in. EVinfo.net offers unique EV influencer marketing services to the EV industry. See our samples: https://lnkd.in/gH5Gdqb7 DM me now! Open weekends. Let's talk about getting your company noticed! What's your opinion of TELO Trucks? #electrictrucks
