Summarizing my actual experiences with them below for all of us to consider as we think about our next 30-50 years. If you really adapt to these 4 lifestyle choices below, I’m pretty certain you will live an energetic healthy life, like our friends in Nicoya!  - Define and follow your 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒏 𝒅𝒆 𝒗𝒊𝒅𝒂 (life plan) - Your purpose or ikigai and pursue that relentlessly every day! This includes a deep belief in their faith which creates strong bonds and  shared values. I heard this from all the folks I met- Romario, Jorge & Villegas and research shows this can equate to up to seven years of extra lifespan! As Jorge Vindas points out -“If they plant an orange tree at 90 they plan on eating the fruit.” - A simple 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒃𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒅𝒊𝒆𝒕 - Rice, beans, purple corn and fermented vegetables- This combination is rich in antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic, anticarcinogenic, and anti-angiogenesis properties. I was disappointed though, as I saw driving through small towns the spread of fast food outlets with KFC, McDonalds,Taco Bell etc., with the younger generations moving from the traditional diet to more fast food & processed foods. - 𝑫𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒚, 𝒍𝒐𝒘-𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔 Nicoyan engage in physical activities such as walking, gardening, house work etc. for at least 4-5 hours daily. Easy access to fresh markets, communal spaces, and neighbors encourages both physical activity and strong social bonds, vital elements for their wellness and longevity. - 𝑪𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒌𝒏𝒊𝒕 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑭𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒔 - Tightly connected communities and multi-generational family living are central to Nicoya’s way of life. They have a strong sense of belonging and support as a result of regular gatherings and shared responsibilities.
