March 10-16 is #PatientSafetyAwarenessWeek so we’re discussing boxed warnings also/formerly known as black box warnings for medications. There is the saying that what you don’t know won’t hurt you, but sometimes it can. A study found that 4 out 10 people received a least 1 medication with a boxed warning when looking over a 30-month period of time. This is just the starting point...getting your feet wet, if you will. What a year it has been! 1. We covered over 20 topics tied to personal or organizational health literacy. 2. We presented at a professional health literacy conference. 3. We hosted 2 eVolve Community Conversations. 4. We were featured on 2 podcasts. 5. We offered 12 #MeditationMondays. 6. We released 7 eVolve 360s Social media is often a highlight reel of wins, but the challenges and opportunities are rarely captured. One thing about me is I believe in keeping it real! While I am so proud of what has been accomplished this year, it hasn’t all been glam and glitter. There were days when I was frustrated, confused and even contemplated if eVolve is the right direction for me. Through the peaks and valleys, I found my way back to my YES! The work we do is so valuable for patients, caregivers, healthcare providers and organizations. Thanks to all who have been rocking with us and spreading the word about our efforts to improve health literacy and advance health equity. I look forward to working with more clients, securing more partnerships, giving more presentations, increasing engagement, more learning, more growing and more eVolving in 2024. Today’s 360 focuses on the impact of language in medicine. The term “poor historian” can be quite stigmatizing and it doesn’t account for an incredibly complicated healthcare system along with complex terminology. Healthcare professionals, please remove this term from your vocabulary. Healthcare systems, please remove barriers that make it difficult to collect a solid history. This is just the starting point...getting your feet wet, if you will.
