I find the right talent faster and solve talent challenges | Best Selling Author | Chief Talent Officer | Podcast Host | Adjunct Professor

Talent Truth #8 Olivia said, "Richard, Talent Truth 8 speaks to the significant thresholds that companies encounter as they evolve and expand. Each threshold represents a new level of complexity, difficulty, and scale. Crossing these thresholds requires talents to navigate uncharted territories and take on roles with exponentially greater responsibilities." She paused for a moment, organizing her thoughts before continuing. "In my experience, distinct thresholds have implications for talent growth. For instance, companies often face significant challenges as they reach the $100 million, $500 million, and billion-dollar marks. These milestones bring about profound shifts in organizational dynamics, market demands, and operational challenges." Richard nodded. "You know I like sports analogies. If I understand you correctly, you're saying that just as high school basketball players face a major jump when transitioning to Division 1 and college athletes face an even greater leap to the professional level, employees within an organization also encounter substantial challenges when progressing from one level to another?" "It's a good analogy, Richard. This Truth highlights the reality that as individuals climb the organizational ladder, each step brings new challenges and demands. Going from an individual contributor to a manager, from a manager to a division president, and eventually from a division president to the CEO requires talents to bridge significant gaps in skills, decision-making capabilities, strategic thinking, and leadership competencies. Add the extra dimension where a company is growing as well, it creates multiple issues for the employee to deal with. Those with the right mindset and capability will effectively move through these challenges." Richard reflected on what Olivia just said. "So, it's not that some employees lack potential or capability, but rather that the demands at each level of organizational growth necessitate a specific set of skills and qualities that not everyone possesses?" Olivia nodded, affirming his understanding. "As organizations evolve, they encounter new complexities, market dynamics, and competitive pressures. Meeting these challenges requires talents who can adapt, learn, and expand their abilities to match the demands of each level. While some may struggle to make the necessary leap in performance, it's not a reflection of their worth or potential—it's an acknowledgment that every level of growth brings unique obstacles that not all talents can successfully overcome." #TalentDevelopment #LeadershipGrowth #OrganizationalDevelopment #BusinessScaling #GrowthChallenges #StrategicLeadership #LeadershipSkills #ComplexityManagement #ScalingSuccess #CareerProgression

The Equation for Success: Culture + Talent = Results It’s simple, really. You can have the best strategy, the latest technology, and a big budget, but you're not going far without the right culture and talent in place. Culture defines how people work together, innovate, and grow. Talent brings the skills and mindset to make things happen. When you combine the two, success is inevitable. The equation is straightforward, but executing it is where the real work begins. Are you putting your focus on building both? #Leadership #CompanyCulture #TalentDevelopment #BusinessSuccess #GrowthMindset

30% is a really low number   We have all heard the adage that employees leave managers, not companies. That is partially true. Other critical factors come into play…specifically the company's culture and leadership.   In horrible cultures, it makes little difference how great the manager is. I have certainly experienced a few of those. I will keep the names out to protect the guilty companies. In good cultures, the manager does make a difference. This is partly why I stayed with Intel for so long.    Culture Amp conducted a very interesting study. They found that while management matters, leadership matters even more. Here is what they found:   The Employee’s intent to stay is impacted by the combined efforts of their direct manager and their leadership.   The data show that employees with great managers and leaders (89%) are much less likely to leave the company than the inverse (22%).    Ok, I know what you are thinking. Where is the 30% number that I used in the title come from? That is the number of managers and leaders who have had any formal training to manage people.    This is a shocking statistic, but it may be accurate when you consider training is the first thing to go when budgets get cut. Don’t get me wrong, some companies do a great job training managers and leaders, but they seem to be few and far between. In my experience speaking with CEOs, CHROs, and Talent leaders, Management and Leadership training is one of the critical items on the ‘to-do’ list. Maybe 2025 will be the year that a formal, well thought out and executed training strategy will change the number. Only the economy and time will tell. So, I guess we can update the old adage: Employees leave Bad Managers and Leaders, not companies. PS I discuss leadership in Chapter 6 of my new book, The Talent Advantage. Check it out. #LeadershipMatters #CultureAndLeadership #TalentDevelopment #ManagementTraining #HRInsights #TheTalentAdvantage

Case Study - The Enterprise Leader: Transforming Leaders into Executives   A private equity-backed company found itself at a pivotal moment. They had experienced remarkable growth, expanding from $30 million to over $200 million in revenue through strategic acquisitions. This impressive growth exposed a critical challenge: the leadership team, proficient at running smaller operations, was unprepared to lead the complexities of a much larger enterprise.   Recognizing the need for change, the VP of HR sought external help. That's when Evolve HR Solutions entered the picture. After a series of strategic discussions with the CEO and VP of HR, Evolve HR Solutions designed a custom nine-month executive leadership program tailored specifically to the company's needs.   The program focused on providing a mixture of in-person and virtual training, as well as one-on-one coaching. The comprehensive approach began with a pre-assessment to establish a baseline, followed by a tailored curriculum addressing the organization’s leadership challenges. Participants then applied what they had learned to real business challenges, ensuring that the theoretical knowledge was grounded in practical application. Finally, a post-assessment measured the growth in their leadership capabilities.   The transformation was remarkable. By the end of the program, the executive team had enhanced their leadership skills by 15%, all while achieving their revenue growth goals. This outcome highlights a fundamental truth: aligning leadership development with business objectives can drive significant, measurable results. #LeadershipMatters #CultureAndLeadership #TalentDevelopment #ManagementTraining #HRInsights #TheTalentAdvantage

Have we lost the "Human" in Human Resources? If your leaders feel like the heart of your people strategy has been sidelined, it might be time to rethink how you manage talent. It's easy to get caught up in processes, metrics, and automation. But let’s not forget—the real strength of any company lies in its people. If your approach has become too transactional and detached, consider shifting the focus back to what truly drives success: engaging, developing, and supporting your people. Maybe it’s time for a fresh strategy—Evolve HR Solutions, we are here to help put the Human back in Human Resources #HumanResources #Leadership #PeopleFirst #EmployeeEngagement #HRStrategy #TalentDevelopment #CompanyCulture

If you are in HR, you know that people are a company's competitive advantage. While that’s true, it only scratches the surface. The reality is that your employees are more than just a strategic asset—they are the soul of your company. An asset depreciates over time, but people don’t. They grow and change, hopefully for the better, just like the soul. Why does that matter? Because competitive advantages can be replicated. Competitors can copy your product, technology, and processes over time. But your people—their energy, passion, and dedication—cannot be duplicated. They embody your business's values, culture, and heartbeat. Investing in your employees is about more than boosting productivity or hitting targets. It’s about nurturing the core of your organization. I know when my soul needs to be nurtured. I love the ocean. My ideal vacation is sitting on a beach, waves gently crashing on the sand, drink in hand, and reading a good book. This is what refreshes and nurtures my soul so I can recharge my energy and take on new challenges. Employees in your company are no different. People feel energized and driven when they feel valued, supported, and connected to a bigger purpose. That’s when innovation happens. That’s when challenges become opportunities. And that’s when customers feel the difference. It’s easy to get caught up in metrics, KPIs, and quarterly results, but the long-term success of any company lies in its people. When we recognize that employees are not just a means to an end but the very essence of who we are as a company, we move from managing resources to leading with purpose. So next time you think about what makes your company unique, remember: your people aren’t just your competitive advantage—they are your soul. And that’s something no competitor can ever take away. #Leadership #CompanyCulture #EmployeeEngagement #PeopleFirst #WorkplaceCulture #BusinessSuccess #EmployeeExperience #HumanCapital #TalentManagement #OrganizationalDevelopment #PurposeDriven #GrowthMindset
