Sounds like a silly question, right? It's not so far from the reality of us relying more and more on AI to answer questions and execute tasks, even when it doesn't have the right information. AI is getting more intelligent by the day. Intelligence means reasoning, logic, prediction. Intelligence does not, however, mean knowledge.
That's because AI is still relying on 1990s search engines to provide it with data. So if you ask a highly complex question that requires sourcing and analyzing hundreds of research papers, or if you want to compare thousands of companies or find leads, no matter how smart the AI gets, it doesn't have access to the proper data to answer your question.
That's why we're building Exa. We are moving into a world where AI will search the web more than humans. We are creating a search engine capable of providing it with all the best that humanity's knowledge base (cough cough, the internet) has to offer. For that, we need to rebuild the logic behind search from scratch.
Instead of surfacing results that are engineered for a person—few results, optimized with keywords and SEO, ads, and listicles—we surface results that are more precise and more in-depth. We've trained embedding and transformer models that can understand the meaning behind a query as well as all the websites and are capable of predicting the most likely links to answer your question (basically: using the same technology behind ChatGPT, but instead of applying it to next token prediction, applying it to links). This means we can provide more, more accurate, and full-content results.
