Why would I join an exit planning group, after I sold my company? That is what I asked to Daniel A. Guglielmo, a co-founder of XPX - Exit Planning Exchange in the fall of 2008. Dan replied, "because you never know who you're going to meet". Story Part I: You see, I had sold my company (all cash) and closed the deal in July of 2008 (timing was really dumb luck on my part). Like a lot of former owners, I was looking for my next thing with no particular idea, other than that I knew I was (and still am), a very good sales guy. So I came up with the line "I help companies grow faster", when people asked what I did for a living (especially useful when doing networking). So I attended my very first XPX meeting at Babson College that fall and sat down at a table. Sitting next to me was a gentleman who asked what I did for work. I replied, "I help companies grow faster, is that something you're interested in?" He said "maybe, you see, I help business owners figure out what they will do next , after they sell their companies, and I am trying to build my practice". BINGO, I thought - guys exactly like me! That conversation led to a complete change in my life. I went from business owner to business advisor in Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), including a partner in an exit planning consultancy, and then to selling smaller companies to larger companies (my "line" today). One amazing thing about networking is the great relationships that can emerge. In part two of this story, I will share how networking led me to playing a round of golf at The Country Club of Brookline, MA (home of multiple #USOpens and the incredible 1999 #RyderCup), and considered to be a "cathedral of #golf". #investmentbanking #exitplanning #sellingabusiness #networking

XPX Next 2024 is just around the corner! Whether you're new or an experienced veteran in the exit planning space, you won't want to miss from experts like John Leonetti, President and CEO of The International Exit Planning Association who will give an overview of the industry over the past 20 years. More about The International Exit Planning Association: The International Exit Planning Association (“IEPA”), a practitioner-led organization of approximately 275 senior-level advisors and consultants committed to helping business owners prepare for and achieve successful exits from their privately held businesses. Their members go beyond “exit talking”; they are advocates – “Exit Doers” who deliver high-quality, tailored solutions that cover every aspect of business exit planning. This practical experience is borne from the hundreds of exit plans produced by the IEPA staff and professionals and the thousands more produced by our members. The IEPA is also the governing body responsible for establishing and maintaining standards for the CBEC® (Certified Business Exit Consultant®) designation. The CBEC® designation has a stellar reputation that drives growth for our members and their business owner clients. Hear from John and the rest of our amazing lineup at XPX Next on Tuesday, July 23rd.
