We have truly enjoyed the addition of Dr. Billy Southerland, OD to our Clemson Eye family! 🧡 Relationship and Purpose - these are key words in how he practices optometry and lives life. Dr. Southerland, a University of Florida alumnus with a bachelor's degree in Zoology (2003), specialized in marine systems before attending the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. After graduating and serving as class president for four years, he trained under Dr. Andrew Gurwood and Dr. Robert Lopanik in Charleston, gaining extensive experience in fitting various contact lenses. In 2010, Dr. Southerland moved to Greenville, where he started his own practice and partnered with TLC Laser Center to manage numerous LASIK procedures. He also served as the president of the Piedmont Optometric Society for two years. When he is not at work, Dr. Southerland loves spending time with his wife and two daughters. He also loves to serve at his church, North Hills Church, fishing for redfish in the low country marshes, and hunting for deer in the Upstate. Introducing Mark Johnson, MD and his team, who we are so excited to announce has merged with one of our partner practices, The Eye Associates in Venice, FL! With the addition of Dr. Johnson, we now have a second Venice office located at 811 Ridgewood Ave. Dr. Johnson completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Miami, and he then went on to the prestigious Northwestern University. He completed one year of internal medicine at St Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois, and completed his ophthalmology training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr. Johnson has served as a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of South Florida, where he was an expert instructor in eye surgery. Dr. Johnson was a commissioned officer for 13 years and served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He was Chief of the Department of Ophthalmology at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. He served in the 31st and 56 Medical Wings, and the 11th Air Group where he provided professional support for MacDill’s many specialized commands. It is his conviction that we truly can change the world by helping people reach their best level of sight and well-being. Join us in welcoming Dr. Johnson! 💙
